Midnight tonight is the last chance to reserve a map for Wolds Mini Mountain Marathon, 3 hour score event, starting at 10:00 at George and Dragon pub, High St, Hagworthingham, Lincolnshire, PE23 4NA. Details at http://www.logonline.org.uk/wp/events-c ... 22nd-july/
If anyone else is considering making a weekend of it, I have booked with Furze Hill House Farm campsite and they are keen to welcome more orienteers, backpackers etc. It also has caravan pitches. Although it's a CCC site, non members can be accommodated. £8 per person per night in tent, showers included. I didn't ask about caravan or electricity prices. http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/detai ... evid=17645

I thought this must be a late April fool - but checking the area out it has a decent number of contours. Good option of this time of year - and even better it starts at a pub

It is a little gem... It may not be the Lakes or Scotland, but after 3 hrs around the Wolds, you know you'll have done a decent amount of climb

However, if you wish to visit Lincolnshire's highest point (168m) you will have to enter HALO's Mini Mountain Marathon which is 3 weeks later on Saturday August 12th. This Event will be very much on the same lines, and is centred in Tealby on the Viking Way (Lincolnshire's most picturesque village). There will be an alternative One Hour Score Course as well as the 3 Hour.
It will also incorporate larger scale map extracts from various O maps in the area which have been used in the Lincolnshire Poacher Series over the past 20 years. There will also be a barbecue afterwards, as it is HALO's 35th anniversary.

Wolds Mini Mountain Marathon was excellent. Thanks to LOG organiser, planner etc, plus control collectors. George & Dragon pub coped admirably with the strange combination of breakfasting claypigeon shooters and orienteers before event. I had an excellent fish, chips, peas and pudding deal for £10 on Friday night, and a good value steak etc and beer with with a friend from East Anglia on Sat evening, after an afternoon at Gibraltar Point nature reserve.
So, I'll definitely consider coming again next year, and mentioning camping to a couple of other friends may bring up to 3 more competitors.
Unfortunately for HALO Mini MM, I'm commited to a (non orienteering) weekend in Lakes then. Hope it's successful and fun.
