Re: Best Value British Champs of the year
To be fair the cumulative amount of orienteering on offer per team of 4 is probably less than that offered to any one individual at the BOC Long race.

The cumulative length is about half a km shorter that the M21E at BOC, admitedly with much less climb, but there will be more than double the number of controls.

Not much interest from SYO members, but they'll be a team from Sheffield...

That was an excellent event, one of the best I've been to this year. Great area, great courses, great weather - couldn't ask for more! Thanks to everyone involved.

Ditto. Easily the most fun event of the year, very well planned and organised on a brilliant little area that would have struggled to hold a JK or BOC sprint.
Looking forward to next years race already...

Are there any results online? Had a quick look around earlier and couldn't find any...

Good fun, indeed.
But it will have to be combined with the Individual Sprint Champs, or an Urban champs, if it's really going to catch on. How far are people going to travel for a run of less than 15mins?

Night and Middle
Long and Relay
Sprint (Qualifier and Final) and Mixed Sprint Relay
This was the best suggestion I'd seen if we wanted the MSR to take off.

Those combos have my complete and total support.

Ditto.
One proviso: I think I'd prefer Middle on the Saturday, before the Nights (rather than on Sunday afterwards). They obviously need to be on different areas.

Tend to agree if that is the primary objective.Kris wrote:Night and Middle

But it isn't risk-free:
- in some regions there just aren't that many traffic-free sprint areas; the MSR might end up either on the same area as the Sprint, or be over 50 miles away;
- rather than increase numbers at the Night and MSR, it might simply reduce those at the Middle and Sprint champs.
But worth fixtures group ascertaining if regions are enthusiastic, and if so trying it for a few years.

Well there was a cracking double sprint in Birchwood on the Saturday - a super-complex new town residential area:
