If any orienteerturns out on The Route tomorrow will they be competing on the embargoed area for next year's JK? So presumably making themselves ineligible for 2018
Another own goal for BOF?

Why do some people seem to delight in trying to stir up trouble ?
The JK 2018 embargoed areas are published on the BOF web site and clearly do not include Birches Valley.

Re: THE ROUTE
there were 38 who took part in The Route on Cannock Chase. of those only 4 were known ( regular) orienteers . The participants were spread fairly evenly over the 3 formats with a slight predominance for the gym activity option. Some were apparently from a boot camp type operation, others from a local running club, some others seemed unattached but looking for something different. It would have been interesting to find out how they had picked up on the event. Some said from facebook ( local club pushed it here ). Interestingly , many said they were apprehensive about the navigational aspects. I took the opportunity to push the June local street O to some and they seemed receptive ( on the grounds that they were more normal? maps )
So probably achieved its objective of attracting non orienteere to an orienteering style event, most seemed to enjoy a nice day out in the woods.
Negatives....the map was terrible, a copy of an OS map with many major paths missing ( it was the main public , tourist area of Birches valley. It made finding the controls a bit of a lottery, although I suspect orienters would have been more bothered than most of the participants who just assumed thats how it,
is I suspect.

Thanks for the positive news John. I was thinking of coming but changed my mind in the end. Sad to hear about the map, considering that this event was promoted by BOF.

Re: THE ROUTE
From the BOF website
Outdoor enthusiasts flocked to Cannock Chase last weekend to enjoy the final event of three ROUTE events.
Over one-hundred participants took part in the Cannock Chase orienteering inspired event, and we have received some excellent feedback from many of the participants.
From the Route results page
Routebreaker - 12 finishers
Routecamo - 11 finishers
Routerunner - 11 finishers
Which one is telling the 'porkies'?

Re: THE ROUTE
Perhaps there is a subtle difference between 'took part' and 'finishers'?

Re: THE ROUTE
It a bit like politicians are always pictured with enthusiastic crowds perhaps. Actually a dozen people squashed into a picture.
