If the supported pyramid is shrinking one way to keep the pool of potential athletes large is by providing healthy domestic competition...
The UK Elite Orienteering League is returning for 2017 with a compact series of 9 races (7 for seniors) kicking off on 25th March at the University of Warwick and finishing at the Scottish Champs on 20th May. With racing in-between covering the South East, Lake District and Scotland.
The series is designed to promote and reward elite (and aspiring elite!) competition at quality races (often selection races) and has MW18, MW20, U23 and Senior classes.
In previous seasons top finishing athletes have won bounteous prizes of equipment and cash, thanks to the generosity of sponsors and donors. We would like to offer the same in 2017. If you are able to support the series and the athletes with any contributions/sponsorship it would be very much appreciated. Please email ukeliteoleague@gmail.com if you are interested in making the league an even more attractive series.
More details and scoring information are on the website: ukeliteoleague.org.uk. Duncan Archer and myself (Duncan Birtwistle) are coordinating the 2017 season.

Re: UK Elite Orienteering League
And after the Warwickshire Orienteering Weekend, results are in and the UKEOL scores are available here thanks to Duncan Archer's wizardry. Well done to all the athletes in the season's first JWOC selection races.
Alex Chapelin and Fiona Bunn both doing the double puts them at the front of their respective packs but scores in the chasing groups in all categories are close.
M20: 1st Alexander Chepelin (120), 2nd Nathan Lawson (99), 3rd Thomas Wilson (98)
M18: 1st Finlay Todd (111), 2nd Freddie Carcas (102), 3rd Eddie Narbett (101)
W20: 1st Fiona Bunn (120), 2nd Cecilie Andersen (106), 3rd Alice Rigby (106)
W18: 1st Fiona Bunn (120), 2nd Grace Malloy (110), 3rd Lucy Haines (99)
Entries have closed for next weekend's Double Dukes races in the Trossachs where Seniors (incl U23s) make their first scoring appearance and competitors' endurance will be properly tested. Start lists for Saturday's Middle and Sunday's Long are at the links.

Re: UK Elite Orienteering League
Any chance that the rounds 3 and 4 link can be corrected to FVO's pages?
Three races in the Trossachs area this weekend, over 700 entries. Bring it on!

Re: UK Elite Orienteering League
Last Saturday’s Scottish Champs was also the final round of this year’s UK Elite Orienteering League.
The series started in March with a Sprint at Warwick University. Since then athletes have toured round nine of the spring season’s best races picking up points along the way. Points means prizes and thanks to generous donations from Deeside Orienteering and Leisure Maps, GGMaps and individuals we have amassed £600 to distribute.
In the Seniors, Jonathan Crickmore made it two years at the top of the Men while Tessa Strain took the Womens’ overall after winning every scoring race but the JK Long where 2nd place Megan Carter-Davies edged in front. Alexander Chepelin and Peter Hodkinson took 2nd and 3rd behind Crickmore while Kirsten Maxwell was 3rd lady.
In the Juniors Fiona Bunn achieved the double double - that is taking both the W18 & W20 classes two years in a row. Grace Malloy finished second in both age groups. Lindsay Robertson and Emma Wilson shared W18 3rd, Jennifer Ricketts took third on W20.
In M18 Finlay Todd was a commanding victor (scoring a perfect 360) ahead of Alastair Thomas and Freddie Carcas.
The M20 class was won by one of only two England-based athletes to stand on top of the podium, Nathan Lawson of ShUOC (the other being Fiona Bunn). Second place was a tie between Alastair Masson and Alexander Chepelin.
The latter electing to run-up in a number of races put him to the top of the MU23 category in front of Michael Adams and Adam Potter. WU23 was won by Megan Carter-Davies with Sarah Jones in 2nd and Rona Lindsay 3rd.
Full standings and details of the series can be found at ukeliteorienteering.org.uk.
Congratulations to all winners and thank you to everyone who has competed in or supported the League over the season. Particularly to Duncan Archer who has done all the scoring after each race and kept the website up to date.

SUPPORT THE LEAGUE - SUPPORT THE SPORT
Providing prize-money to winners and runners-up is one way the League supports established and up-and-coming athletes.
We can only do this thanks to the generous donations of supporters who last year built the prize fund to £600, distributed to 22 different people, most of whom went on to compete internationally through the summer. 45 athletes have been supported since the League's inception three seasons ago.
If you care about backing our performance athletes please join in (very easily) donating at donorbox.org/ukeol and check ukeliteoleague.org.uk/support. Every little helps.
KEEP YOURSELF UP TO DATE
As well as the exisiting Facebook group which has been mainly for athletes we have created a new Facebook page to for followers of the League, so please give us a 'like'.
We're on Instagram and will continue to post on Twitter @ukeliteoleague.
Keep an eye out for articles in CompassSport, posts on Nopesport and the British Orienteering website.
Duncan Archer continues to manage the website and the scoring.
Best of luck for 2018!
