Encouraging to see that over half of the 170 people currently entered for the Scottish Sprint Champs at Lossiemouth on 19 Feb are M/W35 or younger. Helped by an impressive EUOC turnout.
I was thinking that this might be because it was a sprint event, but 70 of the
130 runners at the Scottish nights the evening before are also 35-. See Oentries for details.
Is this unusual?

Re: Are Orienteers Getting Younger?
I have just done some analysis of age distribution for each Scottish club, using the 2015 data. Once I have the 2017 data I will repeat this (hurrah for Excel pivot tables). I may write it up for Score.
Most clubs are missing the 25-40 age group, so it sounds surprising that there are so many <35 entries, unless they are mostly <25.

A quick count up reveals just 24 of 171 are 21/35s so probably fair to say that the majority are u25. Hopefully most of them will stick with it. Would be interesting to see those stats in Score or on the SOA web site.

And you can add most/all of the EUOC W/M21 to the <25 group.

Influenced greatly by the fact that we're using these two events as part of our Pre-Season Race camp with the Talent Squad

Down south most "normal" forest races (badge, cc) are more like 80% 45+s
There are some types of races (schools league, street-os, city race) with a more balanced profile, but they don't seem to be filtering through to the "normal" forest races.

Re: Are Orienteers Getting Younger?
All fair points. That said over in Armagh, 84 of 142 runners in their sprint event on the same weekend are 35-
The good news is that Moravian have just extended the entry deadline by 2 days so the oldies have plenty time to redress the balance.

Armagh is at a similar time to the Armagh 5km which is of a very high standard, so quite a few Squad/squad periphery members are heading over for both.
