It seems to me that the praise for the magnificent efforts of everyone involved in S6D is in posts under WOC headings and I would like them to be more obvious. Here, for example, is from one in 'WOC overall view':
"I think that Richard Oxlade deserves a substantial reward for his calm efficient and enormous workload as coordinator - you just cannot conceive how much and how hard he worked.
Beyond that there are so many that did exceptional amounts and I doubt anyone could name them all. What a sport that gets so much volunteer effort."
As EddieH said there, too many to name them all, but we can probably all think of a few others who deserve individual mention. In addition to Richard I would nominate Margaret Dalgleish who, as Day Coordinator, had a far more difficult job than at any normal S6D in coping with arena plans that had to work round the requirements of WOC.
Well done to every single one who contributed to the amazing organisation of a great week.

Seconded (and more). Having just studied the many-fold leaflet, I don't think that either Richard or Margaret get a mention on there. Well done to them and to all of the other stars involved in the week's activities. I'm shattered and all I did was run in the events.

Thanks to all the individuals who did their bit, planned or unplanned. So many people all went out of their way to make it work, and this general attitude is what must be applauded and nurtured - to have people say "what can I do to help" rather than "this is not my problem".
There are so many details that have to be arranged in the year leading up to the event - and they all get done.

Re: Scottish Six Days
Apart from Robert Finlay, the Strains and other people involved with the computing side (sorry, even though I spent a fair bit of time in the download tent I never caught all the names!) were often amongst the first to arrive and the last to leave. While the front row on download changed every day, the core remained the same, to make sure the network was set up and problems were dealt with.

Re: Scottish Six Days
Yes indeed, Robert Findlay and Sheila were among the first to arrive and last to leave every day, but you know this was only one small part of what Robert Findlay did for Highland 2015 as its computer manager. For weeks and weeks prior to the event he was collecting in, updating and configuring SI blocks (I am not sure of the correct terms but it was an awful lot of work), then in the final week or so he had to deal with umpteen emails on the subject of start times, fixing 200 start times for WOC helpers (despite the start time allocation not having been his responsibility). No chance of any pre-event holiday in the months leading up to the event for him and Fiona. He was in charge of all the SI and computing for the Nairn and Forres sprint races as well as the 6 Days, and at the end of every day he and Sheila were working late in the evening at Eden Court, finishing off the results and reconfiguring blocks etc all over again. And he is still at it even now the Wednesday after the event, sorting out SI units and then it will be chasing up missing SI cards ...
For me, Robert Findlay is definitely the unsung hero of Highland 2015 - the event simply couldn't have happened without him.

Absolutely - the Forres rest day sprint certainly wouldnt have! And in case anyone is wondering how he managed to fit in a run around all that - he didnt - he gave up his chance to run for the whole week to make sure we all could!
Give the man free entry to your next event.

Actually you have to thank Dave Nicol for changing! the 200 start times for WOC helpers as most had not said in their entries they were helping with WOC! As you say Robert didn't have responsibility for start time allocation. Dave tells me this year was the hardest allocation he has done of the last 4 Scottish Six Day events.

Re: Scottish Six Days
Special mention should also go to the hard working lads at SI. Andrew, Steve and co did an amazing job with Robert F, early setup each morning, late out of the event arena each evening and then so much work in the evening behind the scenes correcting errors, checking SI units etc back at Eden Court.
Having co-planned Day 1 I thought my week was pretty brutal but it was simply nothing compared to the time these guys all put in! I delivered the SI Units at 8pm to them in Eden Court after Day 1, they were there long after I'd gone for a bite to eat!!!
I later found out they were camping for the week in the event campsite... please, please, PLEASE can the 6 Day Company put them up in a hotel or B&B for the next event, or at least find a family willing to accomodate these guys for the week and offer them food and beds.
Their contribution to the event cannot be underestimated.

Re: Scottish Six Days
Just got the EKOS questionnaire.
"How likely are you to attend WOC in Scotland in the future?"
Do they know something I don't?

I did reply that the reason I attended the S6D was that I had to as I was planning one of the days

Though I think the main question is: "how much did you spend on your holidays so we can use that to get Deeside commerce onboard for S6D2017"...

Re: Scottish Six Days
A belated THANK YOU to all those who were involved in the S6D. 6 varied and variously challenging areas that i enjoyed enormously....yes even day 5 (masochistically). Really good orienteering, showed up my deficiencies in technique several times.
really enjoyed the two urban events also, a nice change of perspective and pace.
Goodish weather and NO BRAMBLES.......whats not to like?
Kudos to the parking teams who had an essential job but one likely to gather little thanks especially when having to park people a long way off due to field conditions and the impact of WOC, especially those on day2 as the same people seemed to be manning it all day and coped admirably with the poor exit and entry conditions.

Re: Scottish Six Days
Also, a special thanks from us to the (always seemingly very busy) entry teams who had to deal with our family group of 6 adults plus 3 young kiddies; and forgotten bibs/SI units, requests for changed courses (wrong initial entry) and missed start times on various days - all done with great patience and understanding. Very much appreciated.
