Mike
We're thinking about travelling out to Venice for this event. We haven't been before but it falls on our 10th wedding anniversary so seems a great excuse to offload the kids and go away for a few days.
Where would be the best place to get hotel accommodation given the 3 areas and the location of the event centre (do competitors have to go there prior to each event?).
Thanks.

Re: VENICE 2015
you are probably best staying in Venice proper for this one. You will have to go to the event centre to pick up your numbers etc before race 1 and not before every race. You may also have to pay at this stage too. Do you want a couple of specific hotel recommendations?

Yes, that would be great thanks. I presume everywhere is accessible easily by public transport?

Yes from here I go by train to BVenice and the water buses will take you pretty much anywhere you need to go. I get the 48 hour Venicecard for the water buses - the vaporetti. last time I went to Ca Savio it was by car but your entry will include transfer to and from the events.
Will look out the hotel we used last time presuming you want up market for the Wedding Anniversary?

Re: VENICE 2015
I suggest looking for a hotel or apartment away from the main tourist spots (St Marks Square, etc), because otherwise you'll pay relatively more, and the only benefit will be the extra noise of the hoards of tourists walking past your window!
There are some really great hotels and apartments a little off the beaten track in Venice. Everywhere in Venice is within walking distance once you've worked out the vaporetti.

OK got you and will PM a couple of recommendations. I agree with what Spookster says a little off the beaten track will be better value.

And indeed, they did open in June. 263 people entered already, in just two days. The limit is 1,200. Don't miss out..!

Re: VENICE 2015
Mike - you say stay in the main part of Venice but on the website it says - We highly recommend athletes to spend the night in Cà Savio/Jesolo Lido in order to avoid any problem or delay in reaching Punta Sabbioni on Saturday aftenoon and Sunday morning. - See more at: http://www.orivenezia.it/information/tr ... g9wWe.dpuf
Are you suggesting to skip their transport and take the public transport?
If it includes transport to the events, maybe we dont need a 2 or 3 day water bus travel card!?
The Event Centre seems a long way out of things!? It is not even on the water bus map I have downloaded. Do you just go to Treporti or Sabbiani and get a bus to Lido di Jesolo? I assume the travel card includes the buses?
Entries up to 324 so not exactly a massive rush.
As I understand it, there has been a Venice Night race in the spring for many years, attracting lower numbers, so this is no new thing, just a new date and a new concept, probably to replace what they saw as an unsustainable format, for whatever (illogical?) reason.
BUT, you have to upload a medical certificate as part of registration. So that is new.

Re: VENICE 2015
Entry fees have rocketed up I OK, it includes transport but only from Punta Sabbioni I believe-who wants to stay there or Cà Savio/Jesolo Lido?
I think Seville looks far more appealing this year. Have reservations about Burano - don't think it's big enough. I know WOC sprint used it last year, but I would think, with far fewer runners than will turn up in November

I would be guided by their latest advice Ravinous and use the transport provided (as you allude to it should be better value than getting a VeniceCard).
I beleive the issue with changing the format is one of permissions and is related to the perception of the municpal authorities (who I have to say are rarely guided by logic in this country).
I have only been to Ca' Savio by car so could not authoritatively say how best to do it, or the event centre, by public transport. There is a bus to near the event centre from the airport though about 40 mins by the look of things.
I suspect the fee increase and the medical certificate are related to registration with the NGB.

This sounds excellent!
in fact HOC held one of its night street league events there a few years ago. About a dozen of us flew out for a few days and had a brilliant event. There were just enough tourists around the main parts to generate some atmosphere with lots of cheering, and the far flung bits were eerily still and quiet. A bit different to the usual fayre, and one of the most memorable orienteering experiences I've had
