British Long / Relay Champs 2014

Just received my (unused due to injury) BOC map in the post.

Big thanks to the organisers. This is a nice touch (especially given the cost) and one that doesn't seem to happen often these days. I know, having entered, but not started, too many races this year

'Especially given the cost' - you mean the price of a stamp!? Minuscule compared to the event income I would have thought.

Sad to see that there are no British Relay results on the BOF site yet ... so no ranking points . I was hoping to get a good score to boost my position.

Relay events are not BOF ranking events, hence no points.

There would be no benefit in uploading them to the results system, since they are already uploaded here in a much more useful format (and in fact Routegadget was online before I even got home, which was very impressive )

Interesting that BOF chair states it's pointless putting National Championship results on the official NGO website...

Whether or not the event qualifies for ranking points, or if results are available elsewhere is completely irrelevant - clubs are being encouraged to upload all their results - even from Level D events, and BOF's own rules state that "The results must be published on the British Orienteering website within 7 days"

I meant the cost of the entry.

I agree the cost of the stamp is small compared with the volunteer time working out who didn't run, writing addresses onto envelopes, stuffing them, etc. Thanks again.

Focus mag arrived through the door.

I see that the event made a loss, and maybe it will set the future for events not to be £30 for entry.

If it is, then I shall be joining the queue like everyone else to run a colour coded course for <half the cost..

Also £15 per day for the Scottish (if you enter by January).

Despite that I will be entering this time as I feel I missed out not going to this years BOC.

The weekend will be centred on the field behind the Speech House Hotel which will be used for our Assembly (Enquiries and traders etc) and parking for both days. Each event is only a short walk away from the Assembly and parking field.

I thought that for this year's BOC/BRC but went anyway and didn't regret the 700 mile round trip or the accommodation cost one bit. It is the British Championships after all ...

I look on these things from a swings and roundabouts point of view. Sometimes the travel is to the other end of the country and there's the expense of accommodation too, and once in a while it's within commuting range and thus much cheaper ...

... it is the British Championships after all and worth making an effort for!

Just as long as some enterprising Scottish club doesn't put on an event at Culbin to clash with the 2015 British Champs! That would really put me in a dilemma, go to the closer event (British Champs) or the even more brilliant area.

given that the embargo police banned 17 year-olds from the local schools champs and have prevented the regional development officer from doing a session with Inverness Caley Thistle and local TV in July (because the last thing you want a few weeks before WOC is publicity, right?) i'd say that was rather unlikely....
