Re: Night events...
Maybe one or two of the urban specialists should be forced to run in forests - still can't get my mind round seeding for BOC etc including those whose 6 scoring points are all in urban. Put them in trees/uneven ground/map reading rather than left, right, second right etc and see what happens.

Maybe one or two of those southerners should be forced to run in unfamiliar TD5 terrain - still can't get my mind round seeding for BOC including those whose 6 scoring events come from running round the same paths (and probably visiting the same control sites) each year for the last thirty years. Put them in rough unfamiliar terrain rather than left, right, second left, dodge the brambles...

No ranking points for Brighton and that's the way it's likely to remain. We could organise the race with minute start intervals (during the day), and no doubt this would attract more entries, but we are not going to.
There has to be room in the calendar for serious but non-standard events. The JOK chasing sprint is one such example and down South I always used to look forward to the BAOC Military Challenge - though in recent years this has been replaced by SLOW putting on a Blodslitet-type race. There are no doubt other examples in other regions.
I'd like to think Brighton fits into the above category - it certainly has a loyal following. Interestingly over half of the current entries are from non-SEOA people (including the BOF chairman). Another newly mapped part of Brighton this year to complement the Laines, the courses go into the Laines early this time so competitors will experience them in the heat of the mass start, rather than the oxygen-debt affected finale.

Re: Night events...
I had not twigged it was mass start! Maybe I should check these things before entering races
Indeed variety is good. Night Urban is good idea - mass start and normal starts - we should have more of them. So I am with you Neil, keep the format and good on SO.
No ranking points is no great loss.

Re: Night events...
So does that mean for SLOW's OK Nuts event at Wisley this Sunday- Black Brown and Blue courses are all mass-start so no ranking points, but Green and below have normal starts so are ranking?

Re: Night events...
That in theory is correct, although on occasion we have managed to evade detection and get ranking points awarded (Shock! Horror!)
