Nopesport has been strangely quiet on this subject lately.
So maybe it is time to say this....
Stirling Castle has never been used for orienteering before.
That will all change at Race the Castles!
Graham Gristwood has made a fantastic map.
It is a venue perfectly suited for challenging sprint/urban orienteering.
ALL junior and senior courses are planned to visit the castle.
Don't miss what may be your only chance to come and orienteer there!
Both weekends will be well worth the journey.
Entries close at the end of next week.

And don't forget Balmoral Estate - the first time ever used for orienteering and a fantastic Scottish highland forest.

Re: Race the Castles
We have permission to use part of Edinburgh Castle, but not in a way that will give the kind of quality castle-orienteering experience you'll get at Stirling. There's plenty of great orienteering at Edinburgh to enjoy though, the entire Friday are is previously unused and even Big Weekend regulars will find plenty of new sections and new challenges on Saturday.

Re: Race the Castles
And don't forget on the Friday before Balmoral is the JOK chasing sprint in conjunction with, but not a part of Race the Castles. A separate entry required for this via Fabian4.
Both prologue and chase are in fantastic TD5 terrain and quite different to each other.

Re: Race the Castles
The entries close tomorrow night. We now have SEVEN male and TWO female 2012-14 world champions, and even more silver medallists. I'm pretty sure there's never been an event in the UK with so many recent WOC medallists - not even WOC itself!
The areas are phenomenal and have taken years of negotiation to get access, we may never get back in...
...and some of you still haven't entered . What are you waiting for?

You are probably right.
In the 3 years prior to WOC '99, 36 WOC medals were awarded.
In the 3 years prior to RTC, 120 WOC medals were awarded.

Re: Race the Castles
Might not have been the same number of medalists but I suspect the Elite Tests prior to 1999 had stronger fields... one of them was used as a Test Race by Sweden,Finland & Norway?
Wonder who the planner / controller / organisers were???

The overseas entry for JK 2008 wasn't too bad either ... have a look at the Men's Middle results for example: http://www.butlercole.plus.com/mn/jk2008/day2/m21e.htm

Re: Race the Castles
99 entries on M21E for the Balmoral Long race. Would it be churlish to mention that the British Championships M21E had 16 finishers?

Maybe BO should consider moving the British Long Champs to the autumn?

Re: Race the Castles
The BOF Event Scheduling Group gives masses of thought to dates for the British Champs event at everyone of their meetings. They search world wide to try avoid clashes but have no control over other countries changing dates of their events. They consider what elite orienteers tell them they want and what the average orienteer wanting to compete at what should be the best event in the calendar each year wants when dates are selected.
So you can imagine the frustration when having planned and advertised the British Champs five or six years in advance significant clashes arise regularly.
The calendar in the autumn is already way too crowded, so what would people like moved from the autumn to the spring?
Although mush lower in importance the Welsh Classic Champs has moved to the autumn in 2015 as there are not enough people to run this and the VHI in Wales, so the events have been combined.
Final thought is would SOA like to host the British Champs every year as it might be the best way to get a big attendance as there would be a fair chance the event would be on the most technical terrain Britain has to offer, just pity those in Cornwall?
