I'd like to say thank you to POTOC for a great event! It was a slight shame about the lack of commentary, the equipment seemed to all be there!
On another point why are no prizes awarded to the 18's and 20 age groups? They were the only groups not to receive anything. Are they being expected to be able to compete with the top 21 elites? I believe that this year wasn't the first time this happened either..

Yes thank's a lot Potoc!!
There seemed to be a woman doing commentating when I was there, not sure if this continued all event or not ?
I believe 18's and 20's are regarded as "elites" at the British sprints.

Oh yes it continued all day - just that it never once told us what was actually happening in the various races.

Maybe they called it off as people kept losing car keys?

Sadly no live results either for those that couldn't get there today.
To oblivion and beyond....

For those who missed the PA announcements it is hoped that they will be available as a podcast soon.
Great event, only wish I had not missed two controls out.

Re: British Sprint Championships 2014
Unfortunately no commentary, instead the output was very annoying.
"Has anyone found any car keys..."
"Can you all go to download, or we cant sort the start lists"
"Some people have been crossing un-crossable features..."

I was actually planning on cheating until the last-minute urgent announcement reminded me not to.

Give her some credit, she told us where the start was, and she was handing out coaching tips to youngsters after the race.

Re: British Sprint Championships 2014
Thought I spotted a radio control on my course..? What was the point if not for commentary?
Fairly sure I spotted both Chris Poole and Andy Monro hanging around the arena at a bit of a loose end as well. Very odd.
The event was great, a good area with well-planned courses, convenient amenities and parking and a nice space for the arena, but there's so much more that could have been done to give it a bit more of a 'buzz' - commentary, music, a TV screen... Aside from the turnout, it didn't quite have the feel of a British Championship.

I couldn't quite believe it had needed to be said at a British Championship! There must of been several reports to have warranted the statement.
All in all I thought POTOC organised an excellent event and personally I can do without music blaring out in the arena spoiling any atmosphere.

Re: British Sprint Championships 2014
I been to a couple of large events over the last few years, British Champs, JKs and multi-day events etc and I must say this event was the least enjoyable of all - if I exclude the actual courses themselves.
I fully agree with the comments above with respect to both morning and afternoon courses which were well planned and enjoyable. It's such a shame, what could have been a really good day was spoilt by poor organisation.
Without commentary the whole day felt very flat. I'm sure that any non-competitor would never guess that today's event was a 'British Championship' . Why the need for a commentary van - we should have just given the organiser a megaphone - and save some money for POTOC.
As regards the gents toilets - I've never been to any event or public areas and queued for so long while the 'ladies' just stolled on by. Surely it should be the other way around!
The scrum around the notice boards to find your Final start time didn't help either. Placing more lists across a wider area would have been far better.
Planning 10/10
Location, parking and shops etc 8/10
Communication and feedback of the event 0/10
Poor organiser who always seem to state the obvious or moan .... doesn't justify a score.
Lets hope tomorrows 'Middles Champs' will be better for all concerned. It couldn't be any worse.

Re: British Sprint Championships 2014
I understand that the organiser refused to allow commentary as she feels it is too focused on the elite!!! I'm a bit mystified why on earth then that she wanted to organize a national championship. Certainly the oddest and least empathetic performance ever put on by an organiser that I can recall.
A huge amount of work by a lot of people to make today happen. Many thanks to all.

Re: British Sprint Championships 2014
It was an idiosyncratic performance by the "commentator" to say the least, and I trust Freefall has her under contact for next summer already
The treatment of the elites was a bit bizarre - why bother issuing (but not telling anyone beforehand) new bibs for the fInals if they weren't being run separately or announced?
But that and a few map issues (not all from new work) shouldn't detract from a pretty good event at an excellent venue. My thanks to all those who put the effort it.

Nothing on the front page of the BOF website about the event but the results have already been logged through the results tab.
Is event promotion one of the centralised things BOF is doing for British Champs type events?
