Re: World Champs
Long Final - start lists out!
Blummin' shuffled about or what! I won't be bothering waiting for the last third of the women to finish that's for sure....
The men's seems more traditional (highest ranked last off)......
Either do it one way or the other but why p&%s about being different to the women and men? Is it TV coverage?
There's gonna be some large packs at 2 minute intervals.
All the best Team GBR!

Yup, the best runners are meant to go last unless the media says otherwise.

The IOF assure us that this will not be a problem, so you must be wrong

Start lists no longer seem to be available on the web......
Thankfully, I have them both open on my laptop... I wonder if there's a problem.....??

Apparently they've been appealed and are being re-done properly overnight.
I thought it was in IOF ranking order these days, anyone know the rules?
To oblivion and beyond....

Re: World Champs
I have a feeling the organisers used the standard WRE ranking initially rather than applying the Middle/Long WRE rankings.... Scotia moved right towards the front.....

Rules here:
http://orienteering.org/wp-content/uplo ... -Rules.pdf
Doesn't say anything about Long/Middle list
as published WRE here http://iofranking.osport.ee/iofranking/

The starting order for the Long and Middle distance competitions is based on World Ranking positions as published at noon on the day before each competition. It is determined separately for the two competitions.

But as you suggested earlier, the key line in that document may be the last:
The SEA has the authority to vary the order of the starting groups if necessary to improve media coverage.

13:27 Catherine Taylor
13:29 Tove Alexandersson
13:31 Judith Wyder
3 medals ?
And it wouldn't surprise me to see Scott resting up for the relay

Yes, but the "World Ranking list" is the list that contains only middle/long races, whereas the Sprint World Ranking List contains just Sprints.

There is no such thing as a "Long/Middle World Ranking List", according to the definitions.
It looks like Scott only has three World Ranking scores, and so has been treated as though he is unranked, and got a very early start in the revised list. GG is currently ranked 57th, and starting 39 places from last tomorrow.

Re: World Champs
Let's hope so Graeme those 3 get the medals - with Cat not being caught and coming in 2.5 and 4.5 mins ahead of the other two
Just looking at the Start List now, Scott is off 6th. Might it have occurred to him to get 4 Long/Middle WRE ranking scores!? Or someone in management whose read the rules to tell him? Anyway, he seems to have people starting after him with much lower rankings. That seems rather odd and unfair to me...!? Just because he only has 3 scores in 415 odd place (according to their (IOF) list) doesnt mean he should be 6 places behind an M50 from NED who has only done 1 WRE race and has 54 points in 4600th odd. If a British Team Official isnt protesting about this...
Off 6th start in a field of 84 starters, rear end loaded, 2 min intervals - it wont be good sadly...in the 30s at best - if he doesn't drop out that is - going on it likely to be a standard overplanned WOC Long wonder and very physical.
(Yes - I hope they change the start lists/am proved wrong - but that is my professional! opinion off 6th start!)

Yes, that is exactly the reason the Women's start list is as it is, apparently.
