Thank you Dave. A fabulous compassSport pen is yours - if/and when we ever cross paths.

Yes "drip feed" must be a part of it in Moray. It's several weeks since our local paper hasn't had an orianteering section - often more than one article.

An extremely supportive Active Schools Team, club members/parents who have been willing to help stage schools festivals for many years, a regular programme of local (mainly simple but good quality) events in accessible areas with opportunities to socialise afterwards and as Eddie says, a relentless press campaign with an extemely supportive and knowledgeable local press. Having a Scottish 6 Day Event held locally doesn't harm either.
Having a rapid influx of new members isn't without its problems though. More events are required to keep them interested while they become "productive", with a lot of effort needed from the core of the club, especially when it comes to training new organisers/planners. You don't see that many Moravian members travelling further afield (although there are now signs of this starting to change) and the club is under-represented in the rankings list - mainly, I suppose, because of the disproportionately large number of juniors.
Moravian are where MAROC were a few years ago, and a lot of inspiration for that has come from what Big Jon and the team have done down there. One day, Jon, we're determined to give your juniors a run for their money in the JST.

Re: Prizes for Publicity
from this week's parkrun newsletter:
Hi parkrun UK
On the 12th of October Woodbank parkrun was used as a training run for a few top orienteers. Many of them were in fact members of the British Orienteering Elite Development Squad. The team started the day at Woodbank parkrun and then did terrain training in nearby Macclesfield Forest for the rest of the weekend.
Regards,
David McCann

Just seen this terrific report published by the Yorkshire Post (thanks to the Airienteers Twitterperson for retweeting the original Tweet from Heather Phipps).

Orienteering on Radio 2 Driveline with Simon Mayo today. Well done SMOC! Deserves a pen I think.
Hard to believe it's not been on before as the slot is dedicated to media-deprived sports.

A recent article about an article a long time ago. And a special mention for "Crookes lad Andy Kitchin"

If anyone is in the Caravan Club, the editor is asking for info on caravans used 'in a role they were not originally designed for'. A publicity opportunity for all those clubs using caravans for download etc?

Article in this morning's Grauniad 'Do Something' seems nearer the mark than some journalistic excursions. Pity Southdowns could not have found a less technical course than green for the paper's technology head (http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle ... ing-skills). Interesting choice of alternative map-based activities to list.
Map scale in the photo looks a little odd - is this what the AGM motion was about?

Re: Prizes for Publicity
Don't believe everything you read in papers (especially the bit about my wife beating me all the time), there was a lot of journalistic license applied - or her shorthand is really bad. The green was 4.3km and the map shown was, I believe, one that was being used for a parallel junior training exercise.

Re: Prizes for Publicity
Orienteering gets a mention here too, but perhaps this wasn't the sort of publicity SOF would hope for.
