If it helps any, I'm happy to sign forms for people I know (even only by name or reputation!). I did all of Chasers for the French 5 day a few years ago, I even did my own...

I note the 'doctors certificate' includes :
Electrocardiogram both at rest and exercise;
As far as I am aware this would have to be done at a Hospital - and who knows how much this costs?

Re: Rome 2013
Actually there are some gyms (sorry "Leisure Clubs") who offer the service and I think it was included in the membership for one group. And my GP gives me one annually as part of his routine service (that's only resting though as he doesn't have a treadmill).
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Mike,
Does the same apply for clubs such as my French club where to join the club you have to have a medical certificate? Even the French offer reciprocity for orienteering events to those countries where membership requires a certificate (not with the UK, of course!!).
Thanks for all you help. Nick

Um, me!
60-100 Euros here in Rome depending on the doctor. You need a certificate just to join a gym or swimming pool. My view is the doctors' lobby is powerful in Parliament and this is a real money spinner for them. In 45 years in UK I had 2 x ECG (one to come and orienteer in Italy). In less than 2 years in Italy I have had 7 for various reasons

Yes Nick it does, they are aware that France operates the same system as here in Italy.

Re: Rome 2013
So could someone clarify if we, in UK, as BOF Members DO or DONT need a medical certificate?
And if we DO, does it need to include the ECG as stated, as mine would require a Hospital visit!

For crying out loud, how many times do I need to write it

If your club chairman or lead entry person certifies you are a BOF member you do not need the medical certificate ECG etc. I lobbied hard to get this concession and am beginning to wonder if I wasted my time trying to make things simpler for the overseas contingent!!!

Mike, all your efforts in making this event as welcoming as possible to UK orienteers is very much appreciated. Like others have said we are really looking forward to the weekend.

Re: Rome 2013
What actually happens to these certificates? Do they just go in a box ready to be pulled out if someone tries to sue the organisers when they have a heart attack?
Coming soon
Boston City Race (May, maybe not)
Coasts and Islands (Shetland)

They definitely go into a box as I put lots of them into boxes at WMOC, what happens next, who knows? It is probably not a conincidence that the Italian for bureaucracy is burocrazia

Thanks Neil.
In order to meet all your expectations, all Stefano and I have to do now is a big update of the Coloseum map at the weekend and then I can replan elements of the long courses. This is because after 15 years of complete and total inaction, this week they started digging up things and closing roads and alleyways to carry out work for the 3rd metro line - just my luck

Planning for Day 1 at Villa Borgese is complete and I have seen Manu's courses, which I think you will all love. Villa Ada (Day 2) has been completely remapped and Stefano is is just negotiating to ensure we can provide you with an incredibly picturesque finish and we can then go final on his day 2 courses.
Day 3 see above - busy few days for the planner coming up
