I’ve not been running since May due to Achilles pain. I have been keeping active cycling while undertaking a reasonably regular routine of stretching and calf raises to try and sort the Achilles. This has been of limited success and although I only suffer from periodic discomfort during the days and mild stiffness in the mornings, I still don’t feel my Achilles are strong enough to recommence running.
I’d love to find a magical cure but I know that ain’t going to happen, however does anyone have experience of either night splints or Strassburg Socks being of any value in helping with Achilles Tendonitis.
I'm not expecting miracles I'd just like to get running again.

Re: Night Splints and Strassburg Socks
Hi Tim,
I have used a night splint in the past but for PF not an achilles problem. I found that it did offer some relief from pain/stiffness first thing in the morning but it definitely was not a silver bullet. Physio/massage and lots and lots of icing did more to resolve my issue and therefore I would say that the night splint was a small part of the overall approach.
I know that my experience may not be directly relevant to your question but I offer it for what it is worth.
Other thought is to try and find a SEM specialist rather than just a normal GP to get your medical/rehab advice. Biggest mistake I think I made was not going to see a sports physio much earlier!
Best of luck with the recovery.

have you been doing lots of cross friction to break up the scar tissue which is binding on the tendon?

Yes, find the right physio - even if you have to travel for an initial consultation. Fell runners seem to swear by http://www.deniseparkphysio.co.uk/, though I've not been myself. Denise's articles in the Fellrunner Magazine can be salutary ...
