Sheffield or Edinburgh? You decide.

Would just like to make a quick comment in reply to Scotia's question as to when the Shuoc/Euoc rivalry started. As far as I'm aware there was no rivalry especially to speak of until we won the relays on your patch in 2002. Before then Shuoc were comfortably better than Euoc and there was no reason for bitterness. After that Euoc were out for revenge and got all boasty and annoying on peelies saying they were going to win on our patch. But they didn't. And so the rivalry, which is for the most part one way, was born.

Craney now your just baiting ....
Sheffield previously better .. pah
Think there's been a bit of variation as to has been on top. Way back when Edinburgh Girlies was basically the British team, and certainly it's not been one way traffic for either uni since then (and presumably before) hence the rivalry.
Maybe it was just a particularly bitter rivalry recently.
Can't remember who won overall back in the glory days of 2000 - but I certainly know who won the mens relay!

OK boys & girls... take the debate back to the really good old days... EUOC were formed long before SHUOC & dominated British & Scottish Orienteering for manys a year... occasionally Strathclyde & Heriot Watt would import a few Norwegians & make things a bit harder..... but ask any of the older members of AROS who or what SHUOC is or was... and the answer will be 'who or what is SHUOC'..... there is no argument

In the interests of stirring up trouble, I have produced a table of world champs medals by university. I take no responsibility for the lack of accuracy
GOLD SILVER BRONZE
EDINBURGH 1 3 2
SHEFFIELD 1 1 1
DURHAM 1
READING 1
CAMBRIDGE 1
Personally I think Edinburgh has the best running on the doorstep and the best terrain within easy reach, but I am not sure I would enjoy the company.

I guess that's
Edinburgh 1 gold (Yvette Sh99), 3 silver (Musgrave R93, Yvette C&Sh95), 2 bronze (JD R03 & Yvette C93)
Sheffield 1 gold (Jamie Sp03), 1 silver (Stan R93), 1 bronze (Jamie R03)
Durham 1 silver (Palmer R93)
Reading 1 silver (Bilbo R93)
Cambridge 1 bronze (Dan R03)
so in terms of number of medal winners per uni it's 4 for edinburgh, 2 for sheffield and 1 each for durham, reading and cambridge.
would be interesting to put world cup medals in there as well...
