82,000 orienteers in Australia? Lets see how many of them turn up to the Australian Championships!

I'd like to know where they all are, too, and I'm supposed to be in charge of the show .

(I think the 82,000 number is actually the number of participations in organised events per year; we've got about 3,500 full members, and as far as we can tell about 15,000 people who participate in some form of orienteering each year).

That IOF doc is pretty shocking - several flags misdrawn and national orienteering numbers blatently wrong - doesn't really inspire confidence in the organisation

Countries can call themselves whatever they want to call themselves - doesn't have to coincide with physical geography: e.g. the USA has been calling itself the United States of America since 1776 when 13 colonies covering a tiny fraction of the continent amalgamated. Since then the USA has swallowed up or annexed various other independent states, from Vermont to Hawaii, but at no time has it actually lived up to the name. And if previously independent states like Texas or West Florida decided to secede from the Union then no doubt it would carry on calling itself the USA...
So if Scotland decides on independence, there's nothing to stop the rest of the UK continuing to use the same name if they want to. And down the line, when Shetland decides to secede from Scotland (and takes its oil with it ) the rest of Scotland would probably carry on calling itself Scotland.
