Mathematical pedants might describe above diagrams as Euler diagrams rather than Venn as I described.

Nice primary school versions of the flags - bring out the poster paints.
But what about the numbers of orienteers per country. Has UK&NI/GBR really got more orienteers than any of the Nordic countries? Comparing with e.g. Finland makes you wonder why we are worrying about participation numbers. I wonder where these numbers come from? And where would Scotland rank on numbers?

I suspect that the numbers would have been provided by the federations in each country and that they have interpreted what was required differently - since the document is about ski-O my guess would be that some of the countries with unexpectedly low numbers (e.g. 600 for China) may have only counted ski-O participants.
However, it is difficult so see how the figure of 80,000 for the UK could have been obtained based on either the numbers in the BOF annual report or the Sport England Active People survey. Possibly it is an estimate of the number of people who have done any orienteering during the year (including, for example, children who have done a bit at school).

I am not an O-politician, but
- Does the IOF not prefer us to be called GBR rather than UK to avoid the "and NI" part? I am sure I heard that somewhere (or was that the IOC)
- Looks like IOF have pre-empted the vote by providing a new flag for GBR, what do you reckon? http://news.sfu-kras.ru/files/ski-orienteering.pdf
The use of UK vice GB can, of cause, cause confusion, I was recently asked by an Italian policeman why some one from Britain had a Ukranian driving licence

wrt Regnal numbers ; When Liz became queen in 1952 there was a big fuss as she was Liz II in England but own Liz I of Scotland. Winnie C suggested that a convention be adopted that monarch should take the higher renal number of the two kingdoms. Therefore a future James would be James VIII (James II of England was also James VII of Scotland).
Of course monarchs often do not take use their first or(or familiar) christian name as their regnal titles. Both Eddie VII and Georgie VI were actually Alberts whilst Eddie VIII was known as David within the family. It has been rumoured that Chuck will take the title George VII - after his grandfather, also considering Charles to be an unlucky royal name.
Apologies to any Jacobites out there who already think we have had a James VIII, Charles II and Henry IX.

Interestingly (haha) and rather curiously, the technically correct abbreviations for the United Kingdom are GB or GBR according to the immensely interesting and very exciting International Organization for Standardization ISO 3166-1 .
Not sure where that leaves the abbreviation for the potential future Politically But Not Royally, Currency, Socially, Europally or Militarily Ununited Kingdom of Great Britain And Northern Ireland and Scotland (PBNRCSEMUKGBNIS) but I'm sure some politicians (or perhaps lawyers) will tell us all soon enough.

Charles II was the king who took the throne after the ending of the Commonwealth (and who dallied with Nell Gwyn) - you're thinking of Bonnie Prince Charlie (aka the Young Pretender or "that Italian p**fdah") who would have been Charles III
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

The Sprint Qualification maps at WOC 2013 from the UKR box went missing only to reappear 2 days later. Allegedly "someone" in the GB Trail-O team misinterpreted UKR as being Finnish for UK plus "R" for something Finnish (well in I/F/E there is Regno/Royaume/reino).

82,000 orienteers in Australia? Lets see how many of them turn up to the Australian Championships!

Rather embarrassing for us to have an IOF President whose organisation publishes a document with the flag of his own country wrong!

I'm sure Brian doesn't edit every document that IOF puts out, but I hope he kicks the @r$e of whoever did!

Answer 1:
Well they were in a sealed envelope so they were delivered to TM before mistake was noticed. Turns out Trail-O had a different set of pigeon holes.
Answer 2:
Since I only got to run Sprint Qual-1 I wanted to see the course where someone could be tempted to run off the map
