Hello!
The time has come to find some skilled individuals to do some cool ITC things for the World O Champs in 2015 which, if you didn't know already, is being held in Scotland!
Dave Peel posted an article on the British Orienteering website last week looking for team leaders in lots of different roles, my responsibility lies with the IT side of things.
If you have an interest in any of these roles please email ( andrew at woc2015.org ) or PM me on this site for a better description and some more info about them. We're looking to recruit pretty soon. The article above states the 12th of November as the date to let us know by. I know it's very soon but we need to get people in place this year so we can actually start putting the exciting stuff together next year. If you aren't sure you have the time/skills but do have the enthusiasm then you are definitely someone I want to speak to, get in touch!
Here's a brief description of each role I'm looking to fill...
Results manager
Oversee the successful delivery of the IT requirements for the event timing systems, excluding any aspects included in other roles below.
Local network manager
Responsible for ensuring all local computer network requirements are met, both in the arena and at the event centre.
GPS Manager
Oversee the technical requirements of the GPS tracking systems ensuring they have been fully tested and trialled before WOC, both in the competition areas and at other events.
Radio Control manager
Responsible for getting data back from radio controls to the database in the arena in line with production requirements. Will need on site testing as well as trialling at events in the lead up to WOC.
Arena Communications Manager
Responsible for delivering a stable and speedy internet connection to the race arenas, as well as working with the GPS Manager to deliver tracking data to the arena effectively
Live site manager
Responsible for the part of the woc2015.org website that will bring together all the live data being published to the internet.

Re: WOC 2015 ITC Roles
Had some good responses to this so far from some enthusiastic people, great to see!
Someone come forward with a great idea of their own which we hadn't actually included, it looks likely they'll get to go with it and a role may well be created (still needs some discussion but looks positive). So if you do have a great idea for ways to improve our home World Champs that you're keen on please do ask

Re: WOC 2015 ITC Roles
Andy (this is generic and not just directed at you from the IT side) - I know that Moray College run sports management courses. Inverness College appears to do an HND is sports development. They are both part of UHI (University for the Highlands and Islands) and the WOC athletes' village will be at their new complex in Inverness.
How about approaching UHI to see if they might like to cover one or more of the roles as part of their courses? It might be that the out-of-term time slot presents a challenge, but it strikes me that a World Champs on their doorstep would be superb material for their students (and lecturers) and too good an opportunity to miss ... and it would hopefully bring in new ideas that we orienteers might otherwise miss.
UHI also does lots of IT stuff.

It would also present a good opportunity to attract some new folk to the sport in the Inverness area as leading up to WOC 2015 the students would surely need to attend many events to get a feel for the sport and research their roles.
