Re: Scheduling of events
I think if the Scottish champs and the shi's clashed, the best team would still go to the shi's. Could you imagine the slagging you would get if you said that you wanted to win the Scottish champs instead, with it being an easy year, with everyone else off to run the shi's. It's not as if many that are picked for the shi's would qualify to win the shi's. I think the south of England has plenty of ok areas and am looking forward to next years southern orienteering, but Epping certainly isn't one of them.

Yes. Lost my thumb compass scrambling over a fallen tree (poor route choice!), went back and couldn't find it, then made a right mess of 2 or 3 later controls. It was an overcast day, not that that's much of an excuse.
Gnitworp is right though - the difference in difficulty between Epping E and the other Epping areas is considerable. It ranks very highly among SE areas.

Well I'll be heading up to Scotland having never even considered the Southern Champs. On the M21 it's likely to be a much higher standard competition at the SHI's, although as usual not many of those originally selected to run for England have taken the opportunity to run for thier country (means I get the chance though
)

To be precise, anybody is eligible to compete in the race, which is BOF level A. It's only the title 'Southern champion' that the rest of us aren't eligible for.
Funnily enough, housewife, Epping is one of the areas that actually would attract me back to the south-east, more than one or two areas that are being used for the bigger races.
