Re: Croeso 2012
I also want to add my thanks to all involved for a super week in Wales. There are so many aspects to praise - and sometimes its the little things that make the difference. For example, as previously mentioned, I liked the countdown of distance to the start. I also liked the finish being in the assembly area, rather than a remote finish (Lakes 5 take note!).
I disagree with EddieH about shortfalls in the scoring system. In our family it took the race on Day 6 to make one of us a winner (not me - but even I went up a couple of places as a result of my best performance on Day 6).
Many thanks again

Having the finish in assembly is good, both for competitors and organisers, but it is not always feasable - particularly in the Lakes. The open knobbly fells tend to sit above steep glacial valleys with deep bracken covering the sides.

Re: Croeso 2012
I think the drawback of mandating finish-in-assembly was clear on Day 2 where the shorter courses simply couldn't provide an appropriate technical challenge.
I did see an entrance into the meadows very close to the finish that didn't seem to be used. Was this due to too much bracken or too much steepness ? It did seem more technical short courses could have come in that way.

Yikes! apart from a couple of very young juniors that looks like a selection of very scary oldies - Ravinous must be the youngest adult there

I thought the same thing, though it's nice to see pictures of yourself which filtering out pictures would stop.
I wonder if the classic 6 day multi-event isn't the right event for the 20-40 something orienteer unless you are an uber-addict? The scenery looks fantastic, but maybe the social activities look skewed to the tastes of an older generation (though perfect for most competitors?)
Maybe there's a gap in the summer O market for a 2 or 3 day event aimed not at younger adults, not oldies or young familes? Maybe somewhere like the Isle of Wight or SW England with the best weather and some late night beach party potential (or whatever people like doing these days... too old to comment now
). Or something super tough/challenging aimed at the younger orienteers... or have I just described the Purple Thistle?

Unfortunately the internet is too slow at this time of night to watch the slide show - I shall have to try again some other time. It is a pity they weren't posted as thumbnails so you could choose to look at the ones you were interested in.

Does anyone know if these were Ranking Events? Nothing on the BOF results page yet.

Re: Croeso 2012
Note to BO, don't hold a talent training the same week as the largest multiday event...net effect lower number of juniors and their families attending equals less entrants equals less levy for BO, date of croeso was known in 2009 has S6D ever had this clash......

Re: Croeso 2012
The clash was noted on the thread here when the decision to move Croeso was made.

I suspect the training camps were scheduled in advance of that decision.
What is curious was the use of 2 of the events as FCC races - which should open the competition up a bit. Though the FCC seems to have gone downhill since they mucked around with the format of the final.

Yes, they all were. I suspect the relevant officials may still be drawing breath.
<edit> - Day 3 has now appeared (though I am disappointed and surprised with my score from that day - my best in Croeso scoring terms and a good clean run and high position, but still well short of my top 6 BOF ranking scores ?) Also, colour-coded (as opposed to junior age-class) entries seem to be missing from the reults for their course number.

Re: Croeso 2012
Day 3 rankings/results are on the BOF website - but colour course runners have been left out. This is strange as when I do a colour course at a Level B event I normally get ranking points.
