How many British orienteers have Wikipedia entries? ( I'm not just talking about those who have entries because they are top flight orienteers.)
Also - how many of those entries actually mention orienteering?

Re: Wikiteering
I presume we could all set up Wiki entries if we could be bothered. We could add online results to use as references to back up our waffle.
We could have a competition as to whose contained the most useless, referenced trivia.
I've got a new allotment so I don't think I'll participate.
Any orienteers grow asparagus?
Mrs H must have lots she could add to her Wiki page, what with all those CompassSport articles. You could set yourself up as an orienteering guru. We could all chip in and back you up. Is there a record you'd have to beat for longest wikipedia biography?

Newcastle & Tyneside have an entry on the NATO (disambiguation) page - I'll get round to making a proper page and link it to our website eventually (or the Club Secretary will as he is an IT guru)
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Ah that's harsh Frog. i'm trying to generate publicity for the sport in any way i can think of. I don't know why i bother to tell the truth - BOF arn't interested, anyway Mr H has found me a job so i probably wont's have so much time in the future. What do you want to know about asparagus - I might be able to help you there.

Well you could try but Wikipedia isn't quite the free-for-all that some people imagine. There's a criterion called "notability" that subjects have to meet, otherwise the editors will consign your efforts to the wikibin.

Re: Wikiteering
I wasn't meaning to be harsh, just commenting that Wiki liked comments backed by online references, and you had online references and "publications" so could have an entry. Lots of UK orienteers have heard of you.
I'm not sure how the Wiki hierarchy are going to decide how "notable" a UK orienteer is.

Arthur Boyt gets a mention under "Roadkill" - and on Radio 4's "The Unbelieveable Truth" quizshow at 12:00 today (towards the end - subject was foxes).

Gordon Pirie, world record holder, Olympic medallist and double British Orienteering Champion. His page doesn't mention orienteering at all.

And Pete Livesey. I don't know the first thing about climbing but by all accounts he was pretty good (sufficient to get a wikipedia page anyway) before he moved on to orienteering.
