Three more embargoes have appeared on the WOC 2015 google maps page today, although they do not seem to have been officially announced yet.
The areas are Culbin (in its entirety), Darnaway, and an area I don't know, centralised on the Strathfarrar nature reserve in the glen north of Glen Affric.
The WOC embargo is now about the size of St Kitts & Nevis.

Re: WOC Embargoes
Safe to say 'expect an announcement soon'.
Culbin is being used for the 6 days next year so I expect whichever bit is being used for that will be taken off the WOC embargo, but its safer to embargo the lot just now while details (for both 6 days13 and woc) are being worked out.
Also, it's fairly obvious that there are now too many areas for the number of events in WOC, so expect to see some disappear once locations are finalised. When this is going to happen though, I don't know.

Re: WOC Embargoes
The Culbin embargo will impact on Moravian's event on 20th May, a shame for anyone who'd planned to head up there (and wants to be involved with WOC in any capacity)

The Strathfarrar landscape looks really wild and remote with only 1 track up the middle of the valley, could make for some interesting logistics if it does get used!

Re: WOC Embargoes
The MOR event on May 20th is going ahead as planned. The WOC embargo applies to "Competitors, team officials and other persons who through knowledge of the terrain may influence the results of the competition", which is not quite the same as anyone " who wants to be involved with WOC in any capacity"....

Actually, I've just had it pointed out that the Culbin one states
Competiors and team officials CAN take part in Moray 2013

I presume (hope) that this applies to the event on 20th May. The courses have been planned by SCOTJOS pair Andrew Barr and Callum White and if anyone is in any doubt as to what a pair of 14 year olds are capable of, here's the chance to find out. You will be impressed.

The Strathfarrar road as a locked gate with a very restricted number of private cars allowed on any one day. However being private the landowners can presumably change the rules at will. Beautiful natural woodland.

Isn't your house on the Culbin map anyway? Are you banned from helping at WOC then?

Pleased to say I "discovered" Strathfarrar
It's a tough job being a Professional Officer at times but when something like this comes up it makes it worthwhile. More details will emerge later.....

Not quite Mike - you can rest assured that your WOC selection chances will not be affected if you call by for a brew.
Thanks Greywolf for the PM. The Culbin event on the 20th is subject to the embargo and a note to that effect will be added at the top of the event info on the Moravian web site. I guess that gives the mortals a chance on the superb Brown course that Messrs Barr and White have concocted.

Re: WOC Embargoes
Dave Peel has just posted an update on the British Orienteering site...
Basically, Spey areas are no longer embargoed for WOC due to some environmental issue (!) hence adding the new areas. Moray 2013 is going to be fine to take part in. Given Culbin is part of it I would say Moray 2013 should be a goal for any Potential WOC competitor

Glad we'd not booked anywhere to stay - we were thinking of going down to the Spey Valley

Though we tried our best (see http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/news/cap ... te/006720/ ) it was too late. The Cairngorms Business partnership are understandably unhappy as more of the income will go elsewhere. Unless capercaillie do very well or very badly = extinct it seems future Scottish 6 Days in Speyside are unlikely.

I am confused as to how the 'whole of Culbin in embargoed' but you 'can run there at Moray 2013' works

There's going to be a lot of careful planning that the races don't affect each other but at the moment it's not known exactly where the two events are going to be so at this stage it makes sense to embargo the lot. The embargo may well change after Moray2013
