Hi,
I am trying to estimate how many cars I can park in a field, does this sound about right.
Flat field 100m x 100m
Car is approx 3m x 2m leave 1m each side to get in and out of car = 3m x 4m
Leave 5m between double rows
Row 1 = 25 cars (100/4)
Rows 2 = 25 cars
Leave 5m gap
Rows 4 & 5 50 cars
etc
That works through to 450 cars for a field 100m x 100m, so on the safe side say 400?
No. of cars in a field?

I think Frog's right, you are double counting your 1M gaps between cars. 3 x 3 maybe better.
hop fat boy, hop!

Allow 27 square metres per car. The most effective way is to lay out rows of canes/tape 16 metres apart and park cars either side of this. The 27 square metres allows the exit/entrance lanes between rows.
4x4s can be parked on steep bits. Campervans best parked elsewhere on hardstanding (allow about 100 for a major event).
This theory worked for Oban and JK2012.
Squeeze em in tight and you might get 400 (calculation gives 370).

Re: No. of cars in a field?
what cars do you people drive?
I have a Mk4 Golf - hardly a big car - but it is >4m long
in the past i've used 30m2 per car as a rule of thumb, which would give you 333 per ha, but it is possible to squeeze them in a bit tighter than that if your parking marshals are well disciplined so 400 would be achievable

Well last time you had oneof the smallest parking fields I've ever seen (Pwll Dhu and Blorenge) - a children's football pitch. Amazingly I got my car into it both times - I never did discover where everyone else went.

Please don't remind me of parking cars every day at the last CROESO, we only had one dry day, re Pwll Ddu there were cars everywhere, we had about 6 different places to put cars so they were spread over a smallish area.

It won't make much difference to the calcs, but the only 3m (10ft) cars I can think of are old-style Minis, Cinquecentos and Smarts. Any 'normal' car will be 4m or more.

A standard car parking space is 4.8m x 2.4m with 6.1m road width between rows.
So with decent space for car access I'd suggest a space of 5mx3.5m plus the share of the road = 28m2 per car as the most efficient parking you'll get. As others have said if you have a big square field bank on 1 car per 30m2 - a small irregular field will be a lot less.
