The IOC name for us has always been just "Great Britain", even pre-1922 when that included the whole of Ireland. For a while the BOA tried to brand the team as "Great Britain and Northern Ireland" - and got complaints from the Irish Olympic Association who see themselves as representing the whole of Ireland, not just the republic: the Irish team usually includes a number of NI sportsmen (e.g. at the last games there was a medal winning Irish boxer from Belfast who had previously won a commonwealth medal for NI)
Guess some folks might prefer Team UK - but there are plenty of other "United Kingdoms" around the world so it doesn't necessarily mean anything to the rest of the world - and in any case it still wouldn't be precise - Mark Cavendish isn’t from the UK…
None of which makes the kit any nicer
