As per usual if you use them, please let me know.
How did that duck get in there?!
Your usual set of good photos - not sure there is one there or me to borrow but we'll see.
I noticed that they show 3 people climbing up a wall to punch a control from the "wrong side" was that legal or was the wall marked as "uncrossable"?
Four actually, but since one was a WOC team member and another is a distinguished controller, I'm sure it wasn't mapped impassable. (even though I wasn't there, etc)

Re: March in the Marches
The fence was around a bandstand and was not marked as uncrossable, so perfectly legal.

Agreed that it didn't give you much thinking time, but the orienteering should start the moment you pick up the map, not after you've had five minutes to digest it all. If this wasn't the case you'd be given the map in advance rather than getting it after you've started.
In probably every urban event I've done flower beds in parks have always been OOB. You don't really need to have looked at the map, you can normally safely assume it is OOB as soon as you see that its a flower bed. The majority of people stopped when they saw the flower bed and went round through one of the three paths that crossed the flower bed.
This flowerbed looked newly planted, so not empty, and more like 25m rather than 5.

Great weather but definitely a late start forest. Just don't know how Mike Murray did 52 mins with an early start.

Results will be up shortly.
Regarding the wall climbing in the photo, the band stand was not marked as uncrossable, so that was a legal route choice by the map. Whether it should have been, however, is a different matter, but they shouldn't be disqualified.
Would like to thank Ant, Rollo, Mark, Lynden, Lester and the Elkingtons for all their work this weekend. And who honestly moans about seeding when they can just enjoy being out in the woods on a sunny afternoon?

Re: March in the Marches
Thanks Rob and others for all the kind comments - there was never any question that climbing the bandstand wall was not a legitimate route choice it was clearly marked as crossable - as for jumping the flower beds - we are awaiting an IOF ruling on airspace - it wouldn't have been much of an advantage and no one complained to me so I'm not about to disqualify anyone
We were really saddened that the control on the junior course got moved during the course of the competition - we had tried so hard to give the juniors a course worth traveling for it's very disappointing that someone would go to considerable effort to break the gripple and move the control. We have removed the leg.
Edit - situation resolved.
Thanks Graeme for the pms. You were spot on

i saw on some of the junior courses many people were only 1 minute apart when there should have been at least 4, and there were 10 minute gaps in other places, which made it hard not to end up in trains...

Yes, it was a bit unfair, since tall uns like me could just reach up, and save the time involved in climbing or going round.
After 3 hours of running I can hardly walk, but it was worth it. When I saw the new Foxley map I wasn't too hopeful but the planner did such a good job that I got round with no scratches even though I forgot my gaiters...

Re: March in the Marches
From an exchange of posts last February:
awk: The Midlands Champs....Next year it's more central again, on an area that I have ghastly memories of, and will take a fair amount of persuasion that it'll be up to scratch for a top class event, especially given what other terrain is available in the West Midlands.
Mrs H: And Awk - as no one's been in there in yonks your memory must be playing tricks on you - anyway the event the day before will be worth traveling for alone - and remind me to piss on your next event before it happens.
Today proved there was nothing wrong with my memory, even though the organising/planning team did a great job (especially in finding a caterer to rival the old Wilf's!). However, Mrs H was otherwise absolutely spot on: the event the day before WAS worth travelling for alone! Nothing will persuade me to return to Foxley and Garnstone in the future, other than a complete trashing of the brambles.

Re: March in the Marches
No brambles on course 15 but then all the controls were within a few metres of the paths. Not many brambles on the paths. Probably 13 out of 15 legs were TD3.
Difficult planning technical courses on narrow corridors. Would have required lots of short legs and lots more controls.
The sunshine was good and made for good post race atmosphere.
