FYI
There has not been a seeding list supplied by the JCG for this event. Normally where seeding has to be applied details of the seeds have been supplied in advance of the publication of entries. The communications re the elite 18/20 courses have been notiably absent. The planner was informed fairly late on that he had to plan special courses for this age group, so there are long courses for this age with no competitors. I suspect the lack of communications is due to the changes at BO HQ. Is there still a JCG? If not how can this be organised?

Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Good luck to the officials this weekend. It's going to be good. And if a marshall tells you to wait before crossing the road, please listen to me, er, I mean him.

Not surprising given that BOF, in its wisdom, decided that a Junior Competitions Group was no longer required and abolished it at the end of last year.

Re: March in the Marches
Thanks to all involved with the Great Malvern Urban Race today. Really enjoyed it. Was a bit thrown at the start as the first control was behind me rather in the direction the start was facing but that was all my failing. Looking forward to seeing on route gadget where I should have gone! Some really interesting legs.
Great day. Looking forward to tomorrow's event.

Absolutely fantastic race, thanks to all those involved, surely a candidate for event of the year, roll on the next one.
Ok, so I wasn't there, but it seems to be open season on nope for spouting about things you know nothing about at the moment. Might as well say something nice eh, especially if its probably even correct.

I'm not pretending to be an Urban expert - just wanted to say thanks for today to all those who gave up time - lots of marshals around the course. Sorry if it's not damning enough.

One thing I reflected on after the event was that you'll be able to tell it was a good event if there is very little written about it on Nopesport afterwards.

Some of the very best events I've been to have had loads written about them!
Having said that, I agree with Kerry and Graeme - great event: loads of variety, lots of interesting orienteering, and the bonus of great weather (the views were pretty stunning too!).

Re: March in the Marches
Good fun event.
I knew I was going to have to pay attention from the start after watching the two people in front of me go off in 180° opposite directions!
The only niggle was watching quite a few people go straight through the flowerbeds shortly after the start that were clearly marked as do not cross. This included at least one very experienced orienteer, and following his lead, all the lemmings behind him also took the short cut. Even putting the OOB info in large bold font on the cover of the final details, and on the map does not seem to register with some people.
Post race I took up the challenge at the end of the EVO suggestions. The view from Worcestershire Beacon across a 100mile swathe of southern England from the Wrekin to the Mendips was worth the slog all the way up the hill

Hmmmm. My own view is that whatever map clips you show beforehand, it's a whole different game when picking a map up, and to put an out of bounds dark green symbol (representing a hedge that must not be crossed) showing an empty flower bed just 5m beyond the start was somewhat harsh if expecting people to observe it. I for one didn't take a copy of the front cover of the final details up to the start.
Having said that, I know of at least one experienced orienteer (maybe even the same one?) who self-dsq'd at the finish when they realised what they had done. So, just because they did it, doesn't mean they didn't recognise it. The irony was that I gather they didn't put a foot in the flower bed, which after all was the objective of the symbol even if not literally what it told the competitor.

So are these people going to be disqualified? or is it only at selected events where breaking the rules means disqualification?

Your usual set of good photos - not sure there is one there or me to borrow but we'll see.
I noticed that they show 3 people climbing up a wall to punch a control from the "wrong side" was that legal or was the wall marked as "uncrossable"?
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: March in the Marches
Think we get carried away on here and forget we are in the minority of orienteers! Eavesdropping on post-mortems yesterday there were plenty of niggles Opinions of courses in our house were mixed - from very good to could be better (and we covered most courses available!)
Thought the organisation, facilities, weather etc very good.
