Is there a BO "rule" that says students in full time education are entitled to pay at junior rates that clubs should/shall abide by.
It does get more complicated as you can get a student who is a M/W21 - so may actually be 22 or 23 if on a BSc>Phd etc course or a dentistry course.
Had a quick trawl around and couldn't find anything. Are they required to provide proof, if so what would it be, or is it taken on trust seeing as most events where the saving would be beneficial (major ones) are on-line entries anyway.
This post is not questioning the merits of whether they should or should not have a reduced fee, moreover can 1 club provide it and another not.

There was a motion passed at the AGM, may a dozen years ago, which has neither been revoked nor added to the rules.

We just take them on trust at local events and would tend to know them anyway. Most students tend to put a note in the special requests box when entering online eg "Student at University of Edinburgh" others give details such as course & year and sometimes a student number.

Re: Student Fees and Junior Fees
There was motion passed at the AGM last year allowing clubs to treat full-time students as juniors for the purposes of calculating BOF levy if and only if they allow full-time students to pay the junior entry fee at that event. This was carefully worded so that it would remove one of the disincentives for clubs to offer student discount, without forcing clubs to offer a student discount if they really didn't want to.
As graeme says, I believe there was an AGM motion a few years ago (long enough ago that it's not on the BOF website) saying the clubs should allow students to pay the junior entry fee, but I know that there are some clubs who don't do so. To be honest I'm not sure how far a BOF AGM motion can be binding in determining how clubs sets their entry fees anyway.
I have never been asked for proof of my student status when claiming a discount, but if somebody did query it I would be happy to show (or email a scan of) my current NUS card.

Re: Student Fees and Junior Fees
People keep trying to charge me student fees at events and are most surprised when I hand over the 'real person' fee and don't want change. I don't know whether it's a complement or not...

Nope. It might be a supplement, or even a compliment, but probably not to the University in question

Re: Student Fees and Junior Fees
I put in an entry for Young Neville in the Midland champs and it came up with student rates despite him now being part of the working classes which puzzled me as he is over 21. I then realised that it was because he was still listed as a student in the Fabian database so i went back through the system and altered his profile appropriately. In the past when he has had student rates i've just put what and where he was studying in the comments box, no one has ever questioned it.-

Re: Student Fees and Junior Fees
Do clubs have to apply the official definition of junior? I came across an event a few months ago that wasn't offering a student discount (perfectly justified, if a bit unfriendly) but had also decided that juniors could only be M/W18s or younger. In fairness to the organisers, they did relent when I brought up the BOF definition, but only after charging several of the less informed M/W20s I was with full price.

I can remember, from the dim and distant past, when Yvette Baker was charged the senior fee running W21L although she was a W16. It was because she was running a senior course apparently.
