Okay - Who will be the first person to enter the fabulous double header March in the Marches?
A fantastic extra value weekend including the Great Malvern Urban Race the most south westerly event to date in the Nopesport Urban League on a brand new map by Venice Street Race Champion Mike Hampton, planned by Mr H and organised by me. and the Midland Champiosnhips (part of the UK Masters' Cup)on a fab newly re-mapped area not used for ages. It's going to be greeeeeeeeaaaaaat
I would ofcourse put something about this on the BOF website but they are only giving publicity to BOF owned events

Preliminary details here
I'll try and get them moved onto the event page......and the prize for the first entry goes to the Urquharts - I wonder who'll win the second prize

"Notes & EVO:
Malvern is an attractive and interesting town with a Swimming Pool and Theatre next to the
Event Centre. Why not stay over for the Midlands Champs and take in the professional
production of Blood Brothers or enjoy a meal at one of the many local restaurants."
ahhh, Mrs H you never let us down. Can't say I am up for swimming but a bit of Blood followed by a nice meal - yes thank you.

What are the target winning times for the courses? I assume this is not a sprint event?

No it's a proper full on urban race like London or Edinburgh - expect to get your money's worth. Don't know about target times I'll have to ask the planner

Re: March in the Marches
Intrigued by the requirement to carry whistles during an urban event. What exactly is that supposed to achieve?
I must admit to a bias against carrying whistles. Whenever I have heard an investigated the sound of a whistle during an event, it has been kids mucking around. However, I have been injured as a result of carrying a whistle; with one in a front pocket (and my O-kit doesn't have a back pocket), I have fallen on it and had a worse bruise than I otherwise would have had.

It's regional policy - nothing to do with me. Personally I'm a fan after seeing it save a life at this year's White Rose

Re: March in the Marches
But why must there always be compulsion? To me there is an image problem down there (image - not reality thank goodness). Whistles compuslory in urban areas, another Midland club plasters its maps with several warnings, not far short of "hold mummy's hand" and lots of CYA legalese.... It gives a bad impression - makes us look like something really dangerous.
As I said, just image. I have always enjoyed orienteering in the Midlands despite the brambles!

In the forest, I can understand, if not agree.
But can you envisage a whistle saving a life in the streets?

Yes -as an anti-mugging device (Not needed in Malvern I'm sure)
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: March in the Marches
Well as I said - it's nothing to do with me it's West Midlands policy - if you've got a real problem with it contact the West Midlands chairman Brenda Morgan - through the POTOC website here
But don't worry Ian - if you do fall and injure yourself on your whistle I am engaging some cutting edge first aid in the shape of rapid response mountain bike paramedics
check it out
Now if you don't mind I have more exciting things to think about than your whistle!
Ryeland - have you seen my poster? It's designed by an up and coming young local artist called Antony Bridge you can see some of his work here no image problem here!
