Whilst developing the JK2012 and Scottish Champs websites I wanted to use the logos to show the various leagues or status that apply to the event, but most don't exist.
I've created an IOF World Ranking logo and there is a UK Cup one, but it would be nice if there were logos/icons for the Masters Cup & UK Relay League, FCC etc.
If CompassPoint are sponsoring the Masters League again it might be nice for them if their name was built into the logo in recognition of their support. They may even be prepared to provide the artwork for such a logo if it gets them more publicity.
I notice that the British Orienteering website makes no mention of CompassPoint on the Masters Cup page, is that is because they don't want to advertise CompassPoint? Which seems a shame given that they are enhancing the Orienteering experience in the UK and saving the national body from having to fund such things. But I guess the recent "confusion" over the CompassSport Cup may explain.
The use of Logos and Icons on the web is so common that I suggest anyone involved in these sorts of things should think about a logo very early on in the process. It might even influence what you name the event etc. if it's not easy to convey it in a simple 2/3 colour 100x100px image, or smaller. Look at your phone for an example of how useful logos/icons are, can you imagine if your iPhone screen only had text on it!
Just think about the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words"!
They also break up a page of boring text with a bit of colour.
Why do you need a logo?

Too right Paul.
There was indeed a feeling from some of Senior Competitions group that is was inapropriate, but having won the argument BOF simply refused to add the CompassPoint logo to their site saying they "didn't see the point"
I think Rick was really good to continue with the offer considering it was half way through the season before he got a mention and even then theere was this resistance.

If BOF have their own way, then I'm sure the logo for all these races will just be the BOF logo with the name of the race underneath in the BOF font.

Given that the new JK logo (which I still think looks like someone falling backwards) has no overt BOF marking (and that is the event they have major input in) I must disagree.
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

The first drafts for the WOC2015 logo look excellent - a fairly strong Scottish flavour I have to say but there are ideas to BOF-ise/IOF-ise the final version.

That reminds me, Eddie: I'm still waiting for the CompassPoint logo to add to my UK Masters Cup site.

Not sure - it is going through some minor tweaks first before going public.
