Would someone from SYO please let me know (either PM or post a reply) whether SYO will still be sending a women's team if they are given an entry later on today.
I believe the controller and co-ordinator are meeting up later today - clearly they have plenty of other things to do without dealing with this, and so it would not reflect well on anyone if they take time to sort this out, only to find that the entry is not taken up. If there is no team anyway now then I will make sure they are aware, rather than wasting their time.
(btw this should not be taken as an indication that I have any idea whether they are likely to change their minds when they discuss it!)

What a lot the nopesport community are - 64% of people voting against!
I have checked with the INT girls and there are not enough women to complete our second team and they (& I) feel it is only appropriate for us to offer that run to another club who do not have a run. I have contacted SYO and they are planning to confirm with their three runners with the intention of coming and running. In exchange SYO are giving INT a run in another class so our 'incomplete' team still get a run. I feel this has been the best solution for the situation
Whilst this appears to have solved this immediate problem, I think this debate acts as a warning that Orienteering needs to be an Inclusive sport, where to maintain the friendly atmosphere of orienteering we need to be accomodating to people's (non-malicious) foibles. I am speaking as someone who handled the entries for a recent badge event and was up to gone midnight for three days before the event sorting out late entires (One of which was STAG's), start list changes, etc and we held back printing maps until we had firm numbers and then anticipated some extras.
We all have changes of plans, make mistakes, be forgetful - It's part of being human!

Hi Jon
Firstly many thanks for your support.
Secondly it looks likely an SYO Open Women's team will run in some manner on Sunday, although all the people involved in order to make a decision (from both Int and SYO) have not yet been contacted. We fully intend to contact the coordinator as soon as we know but this is likely to be after people have returned from work.
With reference to other posts I would just like to say:
- At no point to my knowledge has anyone from SYO been aggressive about this and in every case SYO has acknowledged our fault in causing this situation.
- We did not choose to make this public and wish it hadn't become public, other than in the normal rumour/gossip mill.
- It was not our idea to contact other teams but that of the coordinator.
- We are not the only team that has been refused entry.
- As to the suggestion that we deliberately mispunch, I thought everyone knew that was standard practice at SYO (If we try to do this we'll probably screw it up.)
Having just seen Anthony's post I would like to thank Anthony and Interlopers for their help in dealing with this difficult situation, and again wish them all the best for their races at the weekend.

I'm glad it sounds like it is all getting sorted out, BUT...
why have so many people got worked up about it? Most posts have said it is not a professional sport, it about having fun etc... yet it seems like everyone gets worked up because the UKRL is at stake. So obviously it is not just about fun, and there is a professional (read ultra competitive) aspect to it.
Also, if it is about participations (which I think it is to an extent) then how come it seems that when the UKRL is at stake, that only then is participation in this certain event an issue?
As for it being a ploy that Scotland is trying to let INT win... I am just bemused. I am not that different from most I think and I am selfish, I want to be in a winning club, if I don't win, I really just don't care. INT are also local rivals so I don't want to see them win for that reason. But even being non-British, I can understand the mentality of not wanting the ENGLISH to win anything.
So let's not kid ourselves it is about competition and rules are there for a reason. Lets not give people a hard time for doing EXACTLY as they are supposed to. But in the end, it is only a UKRL.

I never said they had - but plenty of people are being pretty aggresive on their behalf - at that point in the debate it seemed to me that Interlopers were being cast in an unfavourable light - which I thought very unfair (I am English by the way)
I was merely casting around for a solution which would leave a sweeter taste in the mouth and not show the sport up in a bad light

Out of interest, why wasn't there an SYO women's team at the Harvester?
