UK Cup Final
Good races at the UK Cup Final in Pickering today (mass start loop race). It's a pity the fields were so small (5 women and 10-12 men?), but anyway thanks EBOR for a good event.

Re: UK Cup Final
Final UK Cup standings now at http://www.ukcup.org.uk/.
In the Men, Murray needed to win today, but got pipped by Richard, so couldn't quite close the gap on Matt in the overall standings:
1st Matt CRANE (465)
2nd Murray STRAIN (463)
3rd Richard ROBINSON (437)
Top junior - Alan Cherry (294)
Top vet - Martin Ward (100)
In the Women, Tess unfortunately missed half a loop today, but even had she won and beaten Claire into 2nd place today, she still wouldn't quite have overtaken her in the overall standings:
1st Claire WARD (509)
2nd Tess HILL (443)
3rd Grace CRANE (405)
Top junior - Julia Blomquist (275)
Top vet - Sarah Haines (83)
For most other runners, just turning up and running today pushed them up the overall standings, as the race counted for everyone, on top of their best 8 scores from the rest of the series.

Looks like someone was caught on camera taking a sly look at the map before the whistle went: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wendles56/ ... 731317273/

Wouldn't have got much information from the 1/4 inch strip which is showing. The person behind also has the same amount of map exposed.
Maybe the competitors were advised to break the envelope seal early on the grounds that it would be difficult to do so while running without tearing the map? Sounds silly, but I have known major relays where it has been really difficult to get the map out.

It looks to me like they were checking that they had the right map
Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

Re: UK Cup Final
to be honest I don't think a good 5 minutes looking at the map could have helped either myself or Eddie - however it's nice to know that however hard I try to come last, Eddie is also trying as hard
