JK 2012 website launched

So we've had the discussions about the logo, and like it or not it's here to stay.

I'm now launching the JK2012 website.


It's still early days for detailed information, but what is available at the moment should be enough to get you started. Apologies for the delay in getting more details published, but many of us are only just catching our breath after bringing you the Scottish 6 Days.

There will be a steady stream of information added to the site over the next few weeks, so keep checking, you can also watch twitter, or facebook.

We discussed that over the weekend. Likely course closing time will be 1630 to allow the BOF AGM to start at 1700 hrs (after a prize giving for the Elite). Not sure what the first start times will be - I guess it depends on entries but we may have to move as early as 1200. I had thought 1400 but that may not give enough slots.
PS Well done Paul. I met Mike Hamilton and he was a bit surprised we wanted the website up and running so early. I think we have BOF's blessing.

well for what it's worth i think 12 noon would be good as a lot of us will then need to head off north and set up camp at Blair Atholl - it's looking good

I met Mike Hamilton and he was a bit surprised we wanted the website up and running so early.

So early? This is way later than it should have been up. I don't see why it shouldn't be launched just after the previous JK (at the very latest) when the event is fresh in the minds of those taking part.

I'd actually suggest that for an annual event like the JK the next year's website (in basic form) should have a link from the present year's website before the event is complete.

Or better still, there should be a permanent JK website (or at least web address).

I go to the occasional overseas orienteering event, those which keep the same web address have a much better chance of getting a return visit from me than those which change it.

The Scottish 6-Days manages this very well, with a master web site that links to the web sites for each of the biannual events.

Admittedly it could do with being better integrated with the website for next year's event, but it's a start.

The page on the BOF website (accessible as thejk.org.uk) will soon link directly to Paul's website. Hopefully things will fall into place for this to be the permanent home of the JK in future (but probably after our Scottish JK).

Scott, that link hasn't been re-directed yet, and is still pointing to the BO page that also doesn't link to the site I have built for Scottish Orienteering.

A new generic JK site is still in development by British Orienteering but was not going to be available for at least several weeks. The JK 2012 committee felt that a website was already very overdue and so they asked me to develop one asap.

I understand the need for a generic corporate style/image for these events, and the varying abilities of people to produce a good website. But time was getting on, and we are going to be opening entries soon, so it couldn't wait.

I have built the site to be mobile device friendly and tested it on my iPhone & iPad, but if anyone has any problems with it on their phone or tablet I would appreciate a shot of the screen showing any issues.

Sorry, that wasn't intended as criticism of JK2012 - I quite agree that you wouldn't want to wait any longer before getting your website online. As Colin says, creating a permanent home on the web for the JK may not happen for next year's event, but at least it is going to happen!

Interestingly the picture on the BOF website shows the jk2012.org.uk address whereas the actual pamphlet distributed says thejk.org.uk. Hopefully anyone who wants to come will find their way eventually.
