Congrats to all selected & commiserations to those who just missed out. But what a joke BOF is!!
Firstly it mis-spells Dan M's name on the BOF Website selection news section & then BOF use the news section as below:
Could the women please send their preference for disciplines to Derek Allison, the Chair of Selectors as soon as possible to enable the Selectors to make a decision on allocating runs?
BOF & the selectors just show themselves to be amatuer asking the girls publicly to send thier preferences in. Sounds like the team was selected without the selectors having all the available information to hand...
I'm sure it won't detract from the performance of the athletes... but hardly does the public image of the establishment much good:)

what?! fair enough they should have spelt dan's name right, but they only need to know the girls preferences because they've selected 7 instead of 6. I don't see any problem with asking the question of which distances people would like to run on the website. Especially seeing as some of them have been consistantly good in all and others random across all..

I think what Gross is trying to say is they could have contacted them privately asking the same thing. does everyone look at the BOF website to see if they've been selected? or aren't they told in a more "personal" way as well. The BOF website should be there to make announcements to the public ...

Sorry wasn't so clear! I don't have any problems with the selectors etc asking what preference athletes have. Indeed they should. My issue was that the BOF website news section is not the best place to carry out a communication regarding selections....... the way it was communicated suggests that the selectors aren't aware of the athletes preferences actually I'm sure 100% that this is not the case & the selectors are fully aware of the preferences... but what comes over to the general public?

Perhaps they should have posted on the news section the fact that the long over due minutes of the BOF January couincil meeting have just appeared on the documents section of the website - a mere 4 months late and are all of 8 sentences long - speaking as someone who has taken minutes at too many committees to remember (voluntary) I would have got the sack for that kind of service - what is going on up at Matlock?

And you might also expect to have found (this month alone) announcements on the news section about
- British Relay champions
- Compass Sport Cup/Trophy champions
- Harvester winners
- British sprint champions
Wouldn't have thought producing a couple of lines about each on the Monday/Tuesday following was too much to ask......but after the British Relays I did email to suggest it so obviously it was!

Yes, the BoF website needs some work. It has been in two places for months - lots of links to the old site does not suggest that the website is a high priority.

I think the refrence to minutes is how long it will take to write them. Mrs H why don't you report them all, like you did for the world schools

I am aware that there are issues with the website which need to be addressed urgently, such as reports from major British events. Getting volunteers to send in reports on events has been very difficult in the past; perhaps Nopesport users have suggestions. I will be asking the local press officers if anyone would be interested and I think it would be great to get volunteers specifically assigned for major events and build a writing style for the website. We could offer incentives such as a free pair of x-socks or something similar for their help for each report as I appreciate it can be time consuming.
The website has been slow at moving along but we are aiming to make it more accessible for both orienteers and newcomers to the sport. There will be new pages and improved links to make it easier to access coaching issues, a dedicated newcomers section and the World Class pages promoting the elite side of orienteering with improved athlete profiles etc.
We hope it will be more visually inviting and less wordy. I do welcome comments although you must recognise when it comes to websites, everyone has their own ideas. However, if you want to be involved with news stories from the major events I would like to hear from you.
One last comment - After this week all selection issues will be on the World Class pages. It was done on the news page last time because we were finalising the new layout of the elite section. Please email me sophie@britishorienteering.org.uk with your comments - Nopesport is read by the staff in the BOF office.

.
How many people have been asked to submit reports in the past? I was asked to send in reports on the Wrold Schools by Pauline Olivant as she knew I would be watching the results avidly. I was delighted to do so (Even if I got a pain in the [nope]neck for not mentioning the Scottish team to start with ) The reports were at least posted on the day the result became available and appeared on the BOF website that day. No-one else has ever asked me to send reports - infact as I recall I have offered my services (free of charge)to robin field before now and been turned down (I have since withdrawn the offer). Anyway - I look forward to the pair of socks - size 4 please
