Final Details
After seeing the epicness of the JK Final Details (64 pages in all, and even more pages per day than the Southern Champs was). I was wondering if all the information included is really necessary? Or if it is, what would happen if organisers posted an individual PDF for each day, or a concise version too. What would really need to be included in a diet-version of the final details?

Re: Final Details
I didn't even get to the actual information in it, got bored reading the multiple pages of 'welcome'

Re: Final Details
Ambiguity about crossing points aside, I took from the details that
You will need..
Whistle
Cagoule.
Number.
More time than you expect due to the traffic - don't try to short cut.
Special sign in form for Tyrelia.
No shorts except Friday
You might need.
Gaiters for gorse and Marram grass
Map scale 1:4 ; 1:10, 1:15
There's some unmapped burnt stuff. From course lengths, they figure the top elite will be doing 6mins/km in sand dunes (which need 5m contours) and 7mins/km on the mountain. That makes it sound pretty slow, steep, rough and horrible... (or, more likely, underplanned)

Re: Final Details
The Irish normally plan full length courses and do it well. I've invariably found NI events well organised, well planned and very friendly. Having not yet read the details I am a little concerned about what I hear on another thread on crossing points.

I'm really hoping it won't be rough and horrible - and the terrain description ("extensively sheep grazed"

"If only you were younger and better..."

Does the 5 pages of "welcome" really belong in the Final Details? Would it be better on the website or actually at the event?

This is what I got from it:
Cagoule: Must carry if they say so and it will be well publicised at entrances/exits/website etc.
Whistle: it says 'Shall take' which is a step below 'must' and therefore not a requirement in my eyes. I didn't see anywhere stating no-whistle-no-go, can anyone else point me in the direction for a such a statement? If its there I hope the traders have brought 2000+ whistles to sell. They will make a lot of money if they have and they are required.
Number: Required.

Re: Final Details
Not in my opinion: every entrant should be aware of the thanks being given etc and sponsors and other supporting organisations have the right to communicate "welcomes" to all entrants, many of whom might not see them if not in the final details. Having said that, I just read them and printed the sections (or parts thereof) that I really wanted.Broken Ground wrote:Does the 5 pages of "welcome" really belong in the Final Details? Part of my work has been writing requirements specifications, and in those "shall" always indicates something that's compulsory (hence the same as "must"). But I have to agree that saying "no whistle no go" - if that's what was meant - is clearer for everyone.

Read the Rules :
1.4 Interpretation
1.4.1 The word ‘shall’ is a definite requirement.

Re: Final Details
Not got to final details - still trying to understand the 'balanced' times in the start list. Our latest start on the 2 individual days is 10.32!! Others have both days starts after 1300 hours. At least we can save on breakfast both days and see a bit of Ireland - or do the Final Details prevent us leaving the car park until the afternoon.

Appendix L to the rules wrote:Entrants should be allowed a choice of early/middle/late start times (for the JK this should apply to each day separately, e.g. an entrant may choose late starts on both days). Each entrant should then be allocated a start time at random within the appropriate band, except for seeded competitors who should be dealt with as under 2.5.1 above.

Ambiguity rules the day (again!), I've always used 'must' in requirements documents because it's less ambiguous than shall. Have the organisers emailed traders and warned them to bring 1000+ whistles each? I'll never understand the mandatory whistle rule. Madness.
I'll never understand the JK start times, was there a 'near the people who entered together' or a 'near my club' option?
