Fierce competition on the Orienteering World Cup 2015
Who awarded Orienteering World Cup 2015 is decided in August at the World Cup in France. The choice of the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) board is between Sweden, Bohuslän / Dal-Stromstad / Tanum and Great Britain, Scotland, Inverness.
In a few days, Björn Persson from IOF visited Strömstad and Tanum. One part of the evaluation that IOF does in the process of making decisions about upcoming World Cup organizers.
- There are two very good applications, both of high quality. There will be a difficult decision for the IOF, competition is fierce, "says Björn Persson, head of the evaluation of the organizers of Orienteering Championships on IOF
Bear, along with representatives from the Swedish Orienteering Federation (SOFT) and Bohuslän / Valley Orienteering Federation visited the different terrain areas that are supposed to keep the races in, inspected facilities for residents, media center, space for IOF delegates' meetings, etc..
- I am very happy with what I've seen on the site. Strömstad is a good city for an Orienteering World Cup, I think we can do that by IOF want that visibility of the sport more, to really make an impression, it feels really good, "said Bjorn after his two days on the West Coast.
The concept of Stromstad, mainly on providing the athletes a high quality of off-road racing with areas not previously used for orienteering. A joint World Cup village for the athletes, and a commitment to contribute to orienteering development by providing new nations subsidized participation. Furthermore, an integrated championship where even precision orientation is included.
The organizers are also focusing on the visibility of the sport by guaranteed television production of the entire event.
- We have to look at different parts of our application. It has been very good for us to talk about and demonstrate the Bear how we thought when we built our concept and the various options available for the event, said Tom Hollowell, förbundschef the SOFT.
- I feel very confident with the local organizers Bohuslän / Dal, this is a solid experience and a strong commitment to make a VM of the highest quality. We of course hope that we will be assigned to the event and then it becomes part of the visibility of the sport even more, "continues Tom.
The next step in the process is that Björn Persson travel to Scotland and carry out the corresponding evaluation of their application. After this, the evaluations in a report to the Board of the IOF. Decisions will be taken at the World Cup in France in August this year.

I remember the 1999 bid 'war' between the Lakes & Inverness.... we flew the 'inspectors' round the Highlands in a helicoptor.... worked wonders
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Interesting that IOF are happy to have s Swede assessing 2 bids - one of which is from Sweden! However even-handed Bjorn is he is open to accusations of bias.

Re: Latest on WOC 2015 bid
The decision on who will host WOC 2015 will be made and announced by the IOF at this year's World Champs in France. There is a bit more information about the British Orienteering bid to host WOC2015 in Scotland on the BOF webpage, and on our Facebook page.

Re: Latest on WOC 2015 bid
If both competing bids offer a fully acceptable competition why not award one area 2015, and the other 2017 - thereby saving unnecessay and costly bid procesess. IOF is not FIFA ffs (well I hope not otherwise 2019 will be around tricky treeless dunes in 55 C in Qatar).

Re: Latest on WOC 2015 bid
Sadly, it's not that simple to transfer bids between years. I can't speak for the Swedes, but I believe that the British bid couldn't be rescheduled to 2017 without some very substantial reworking, particularly regarding the agreements with the various partnership organisations.
For instance, I understand that the agreed support from EventScotland is quite specifically available for 2015 - obviously they have a limited annual budget to work with and commitments to other events/bids for future years.
