st andrews race
I see that the St Andrews race is on the Fabian website for entries. Can anyone advise which courses to enter in line with the nopesport league classes please?

I should probably know the answer to this given that I'll be timing the event, but I don't... So I'll go and find out.

Re: st andrews race
I'm just planning my St Andrew's weekend and it's going to be very expensive! Can anyone suggest/offer any accommodation for a W50 overnight on the Friday? I would be arriving by train (in Leuchars) around 9.30pm. Also. to echo Mrs H's posting, still no word on NOPE courses yet, any ideas anyone?

Is M40+ just men between 40 and 45? Seems strange for them to be included in the long and M35 and 45 to be in the short or am I missing something?

frog,
In urban racing, you tend to get a more limited range of classes: Men's/Women's Open classes, then 40+, 55+ for seniors.
So any M35 will be in the Men Open, whilst 45s and 50s will run in the M40+.
Makes for much better competition than is usually available at O-events (IMO).

Re: st andrews race
My 13 year old son was disappointed not to be able to run in the urban o as it's his favourite type of orienteering. Seems strange that Edinburgh and Perth are OK but St Andrews isn't. I presume there's a particularly nasty road that couldn't be avoided or something.

Really looking forward to it - but any reason why this event is not registered as a Regional event, like most of the other Nope urban events seem to be? It would have been nice to have the opportunity to try to earn some ranking points, something that's fairly rare up here. Same goes for the open PWT races last weekend?

Surely the open PWT races were regional/ranking events. They were (and still are) listed as such on the fixture page of the British Orienteering website and, in fact, this was a major reason why I entered the Scone event on Friday.

I have queried why the Devilla event has been listed as a local event on the results page - and therefore not having ranking points awarded - when again it clearly states that it was a regional event on the fixture page. I am awaiting a reply.

By the way, is it rare for ranking events to be held up here compared to other regions (I am fairly new to the sport, very new to taking notice of the rankings)?
Having an objective measure like this is useful in measuring progress and it is a shame if Scottish competitors are prevented from taking full advantage - particularly when ranking event results are not submitted correctly or at all (eg SOL5 - Aboyne results haven't appeared yet).

Re: st andrews race
We'd a discussion about this recently at our committee meeting. My impression is that the main barrier to differentiate between Level 2 and Level 3 events is the requiment for an external controller for level 2, which can be a problem. I also thought the Devilla event was marketed as level 2 although not all sosols are. I did the rerun of the Scone event and the open event on Saturday - no idea what these were registered as - seems odd the results arent on the BOF website unles PWT counts as International? Maybe should check the IOF website to see if i got any world ranking points?

No, SoSOLs are usually local although Gullane Dunes earlier in the year was classed as regional, and therefore ranking. Looking quickly at other Region's CompassSport Cup/Trophy heats these are regional.
Over the past two weekends I've taken part in three events that were listed as regional on BOF - PWT at Scone, Devilla and SOL5 at Aboyne - and not had so much as a sniff at a ranking point. Now, they were all excellent events, I got a lot out of them, and I probably would have done them without ranking points being available (although it was a large part of the reason why I rushed to Scone after work), but it would have been good to be able to judge my progress against runs earlier in the year.
Oh, and if I got any world ranking points then there is something seriously wrong with the system

I wasn't aware they were registered as L2! (PWT/Scone)
I'll look at that after I get back from the event I'm at this weekend. Won't be terribly easy to do rankings for them though as it was set up as a few different events. I'll see what I can do.
You ain't getting world ranking points as it wasn't a WRE. UK only gets 3 ranking events a year and with 2 practically reserved for the JK it's hard to get the 3rd.
