Is it possible to see any of the maps? Seems to be some interesting long legs looking at the times.

Here's the all-controls and all-courses map. You'll need to look at the gaffling diagram to work out specific courses.

The map itself was an immense piece of work. Someone told me the survey had taken 80 hours per square km, and it's about 12 square km total, so about half a man-year. Apart from finding the forest much thicker than you might guess from the map, I found it spot-on.

Pardon my ignorance -but as the venue is North of 60 degrees and given the time of year did it ever get properly dark?

The event started at sunset, which was 2255. Sunrise was about 0300. In the assembly area during the night it was quite dark, but not absolutely "pitch black". In the forest it certainly was "properly dark".

Yes, it was a dark night with clouds and rain also at the changeover where I spent the night pulling maps and squinting at team numbers, and it must have been even darker in the forest! But to encourage everyone interested to come to Jukola: On clear summer nights around midsummer it does not get dark in open areas; one can read a book at midnight and the dim moment around 1 o'clock is soon over, at least as I have seen it in central Finland. But on cloudy and rainy nights a sunset is a welcome sight as it was on Sunday. I think that everyone who ran in Jukola in that terrain and weather this year did a great job, well done!

Small correction, Joe Mercer ran a splendid 2:07:23 hauling JOK up to 465, ahead of Team Nope. That'll teach them to drop their anchor man

It was probably the most challenging course I've ever run. Relentless low visibilty, yet still always fair and runnable. Super accurate map, demanding long and short legs. controls all hard to find but again, never unfair, you had to be there before you'd see the people punching. Absolutely brilliant.

SLOWs last leg runner in the Venla fell and went face first into a rock - but depite bruising and a state of shock she managed to get a tow from passing runners and complete the course with little time lost. Well done Vicky.
Unfortunately our last leg runner on the Jukola cut his hand open on one of the many slides down a rockface and had to retire since the amount of blood flowing made it impossible to read his map. The A&E department at the local hospital may have been quieter than a UK one but we still had quite a wait until John got his 4 stitches. When we walked in the receptionist just asked "Jukola?"
Personally I got stuck up to my waist in a tiny piece of bog near the 2.7k radio control . It took 2 other runners to pull me out! But I made 100+ places again so I'm happy (-ish)

This year's Jukola seems to have been the toughest for a long time, with lots of mistakes, even amongst the top teams, but it remains a fantastic and must do event. If you can't get a team together just from your club then form an ad hoc one from anyone you know that is like minded. And as someone else has already said you set your own targets. Ours was to beat the halfway mark - our Venla team did and our Jukola team didn't. Better luck next time...

Joe Mercer's result wasn't in the Jukola result early Sun morning. I presumed you were lacking a man for the last leg. I presume they initially missed him out. Glad JOK managed to finish in a good time, I noticed he wasn't a DNF in the results and wondered what had happened.

Since everyone on here has relay fever after Tio Mila and the British I thought I would check to see if anyone is wanting to run for Nope Team Banter in 2012. We have a crack team of 6 hoping to break the top 300 (or at least better last year's 376):
