It's because some of us Super Vets prefer Urban racing to getting muddy in a forest

Final details for the Nottingham race are now available on the NOC website. Start times will be published on the Fabian website shortly. Still chance to enter on-line and limited entry on the day until maps run out.

Update after Nottingham:
women
men.
The juniors who ran the M/W13- courses have been given points following on from those on the M/W14+ courses.
Too late for further comment now; I'll add some tomorrow unless someone (perhaps one of those juniors who's off school for Easter?) beats me to it. Thanks NOC for an enjoyable and well-organised day.

Damn! I was just practising the coming late-season subterfuge of splitting Mr Ward into Mart, Martin and Spookster, and Mr Adams into Chas, Charlie and Mr Simpson, but the Sheffield punters proved that they were awake! Curses!

Update after Ripon:
women men.
The juniors who ran the M/W16- courses have been allocated points, following any Juniors who ran the M/W18 courses.
A good few people have a full scoring set of six races already. Here's a quick update:
Junior Women: Amy Kimberly (286) scores a third race and takes over at the top from Rona Lindsay (200).
Open Women: Jenny Johnson (389) now has more races than anyone else, as well as a second win.
Veteran Women: Liz Phillips (468 from 5 races) leads by just half a point from Wendy Carlyle (467.5 from 6) with Delia Kingsbury (464 from 5) close behind
Superveteran Women: the youthful Lynden Hartmann (541) slightly extended her lead over Sue Findlay-Robinson (531), both from six races
Junior Men: Michael Adams and Alex McCann share the lead on 282 points from 3 races; William Parkinson (269) has moved up to third
Open Men: Ollie O'Brien (312) took a wrong turning and ran 26 miles round Edinburgh instead of 10km-ish around Ripon, enabling defending champion Liam Harrington (355) to take the lead
Veteran Men: Tony Udris (459) and Lester Hartmann (384) both have six scores, but Charlie Adams (393 from 4) splits them
Superveteran Men: John Robinson (517 from 6) leads from Doug Henderson (465 from 5)
Next race is York on 31 May, before a 3-month break until the Sheffield / Lincoln weekend on 4-5 September.

Re: Really the Nopesport Urban League 2010
Many thanks Roger for doing the update so quickly especially when you weren't even there. We are missing York so I guess this is when people start coming past me - but it's been a fantastic series so far and the remainder looks very exciting. Well done Wendles - run very fast at York.
But it wouldn't be anywhere near so exciting without the league tables so a big
to Roger.
I seem to recall there was a separate yorkshire League on the go - are we scoring points in that as well and could someone provide a link to it - it might encourage us to pull in a few of those where possible to make up the set - with two of our children at uni in yorkshire it's not hard to find an excuse to come up:?

Here's a link to the Yorkshire League
http://www.eastpennineoc.org.uk/2010eve ... eague.html
It poses a problem for old gits like me - do I run Mens 55+ to score in nopesport or the shorter course M70 to grab a few points in the Yorks League - one thing is certain after yesterday's heat I couldn't have gone round course 3 after running course 2
PS There's also an urban event coming up at Saltburn for those who would like a visit to the seaside

PPS Just checked - you're in 6th place in the Yorks league (Ripon result not yet included)

Like the Yorkshire Superleague, it's a series of events in the region, not a series of events just for those from the region! The urban league also includes what promises to be some excellent races not included in the Nopesport League, like Holmfirth and the Airienteers double header weekend in Bronte/Chippendale country. Awards for the Yorkshire Urban series are limited to YHOA members though; for the Superleague all BOF members are eligible.

Good orienteering is not a skill. It is an attitude.

I sympathise. The point-scoring process, which I think that I've applied consistently, is to rank the courses for the M/W18s first. Then if minimum ages have been applied (so that 16s or 14s have been barred from running the course for their 'proper' category), to follow on with any younger course -- except that courses specifically for M/W12- (typically park rather than urban) aren't included.
The underlying problem is that police / councils vary in the age that they deem youths to be safe to cross roads in competition. There's variation in the roads as well as the people involved, so we're unlikely ever to get consistency. This year seems to have been particularly tough on the M/W16s, but at least they are scoring points rather than being excluded completely -- and there have been so few 18s that the 16s are actually scoring pretty well.
Although the formats and age limits for the juniors have varied, compared to previous years this year's organisers are doing a good job of sticking to the Urban League categories wherever possible.
If 16 becomes an established safety cut-off then that would be a good argument for putting the 18s into the Open categories and making 'Junior' into M/W16-. Similarly, I'll keep an eye on the number of M/W70+ ultravets, and create an extra class next year if there seems to be a demand. The result spreadsheets could cope with an extra tab each, although Nopesport may or may not be able to run to another pair of bricks.

It's up to the organisers, not me, to decide whether or not this result should stand. If they disqualify him or declare him as non-competitive (and someone tells me!) then I'll remove the points. I have nothing to go on other than the published results.
