Aberystwyth O Amour
Entries are now being taken for The Welsh Championships weekend which is being held in 2 locations near Aberystwyth on the weekend of the 6th and 7th of March. Both days are level 2 (ranking) events..
The Saturday event is the inaugural Welsh Middle Distance Championships at the beautiful Hafod Estate, near Pontrhydygroes about 12 miles east of Aberystwyth. Hafod is one of the most beautiful estates in Wales, founded in the 18th century, with the river Ystwyth running through the middle in a spectacular gorge.
Sunday's event is the Welsh Classic (Long Distance) Championships and is being held at Nant y Arian, a forest centre on the A44, 10 miles east of Aberystwyth. Courses are by age class, but colour course entries may also be made.
The immediate area is forested but there is good running on the open land extending out from this. There is a café, visitor centre and children's playground at Nant y Arian, also numerous red kites waiting to be fed! A sight worth seeing!
Further details, including about the quiz night on Saturday, can be found on POW's website: http://www.mid-wales-orienteers.org.uk

Not the last tang-O in Aberystwyth then?
Hafod - that sounds hilly and spikey. Beautiful place though - anyone going have a look at the waterfall at the end of the cave after your run.
Watch out for Herod Jenkins though.

Bit of a bummer for a Welsh night orienteer though - having to choose between the Welsh (day) Championships and the British Night Championships.

Good point. Wonder what Ifor will do?
Also, if you happen to be a Welsh night orienteer who is a Cambridge or Oxford alumnus and has also been selected (by virtue of part English parentage) for Interland, then you've got a real problem.

Unfortunatly I am going to miss the Welsh champs and the British nights. I am doing the Open 5 event on the Sunday with Al. It's 3 out of 5 to count and having done well in the first 2 the one in March is the only other one Al can do so I am commited to that....

Tough call for Alice & I as well, but we've eventually decided it has to be the Welsh Champs.
Which leaves us with another problem.... If anybody is going to be at this weekend's Southern Champs and the British Nights and is willing and able to take a Trophy up to Scotland for me, I would be most grateful. Please PM me.
