Looking through the fixtures list for this Autumn, aside from an excellent range of city races, there seems to be an absence of traditional events on high quality technical terrain. The ones that stand out to me are:
November Classic (1st Nov) Bentley & Fritham. always a pleasant event.
Subberthwaite Common (8th Nov) Area adjoins Blawith and Torver Low Common, so technical moorland within easy reach of M6.
Eyam Moor (15th Nov) this area is infinitely better with Bretton as well but as it's not mentioned in the flyer, I guess it's just moorland headbanging.
Beaudesert (12th Nov). Probably the most technical of the Cannock areas.
Any others I've missed, (probably lots in Scotland!)? I am prepared to travel.

Don't think so - it does look a singularly unpreposessing autumn outside the urban areas, I agree.

Beaudesert is down as 13th December on my diary/chasers' website.
The Eyam Moor event (VHI) is on the Sunday - for the VHI (Relay?) on Saturday 14th there's a score event - on Longshaw I believe - make a weekend of it!

Further down south, the rarely used Mytchett (8th Nov) and Epping East (22nd Nov) are both hosting events - likely to be fast but with enough technicality to catch out the unwary.

"Eyam Moor (15th Nov) this area is infinitely better with Bretton as well but as it's not mentioned in the flyer, I guess it's just moorland headbanging." (Wonderboy)
As Planner for this event I can assure you this isn't the case - all courses apart from White and Yellow will spend a sigificant amount of time in Bretton Clough. Which isn't to say that there won't be some moorland headbanging for the longer courses - but then you want variety, don't you? I've even tried to plan round the knee deep heather as much as possible and the bracken is beginning to die down.
And it addresses one of the other threads on the Forum by providing a weekend of orienteering on relatively good quality terrain - Longshaw and Eyam (including Bretton Clough).

Re: Quality Events this Autumn
Scotlandwise we're quite busy with a couple of northern SOLs this weekend, the Tinto Twin night event and SOL (Linlithgow so not that far north, it's between Edinburgh and Glasgow) 1st Nov weekend, a SoSOL (1 step below SOLs usually quality colour coded events) on 8th Nov near Stirling and the Scottish Score at Pitmeddan (between Edinburgh and Perth)on 22nd Nov.
The ESOA individual champs at the Lomond Hills in Fife on 25 Oct is more open hillside than technical forest but should still have a range of courses and good turnout.

Titterstone Clee, also on 8 November, is not without its challenges and interest.

If you discount the 4 or 5 events that have already been held there this year! But nobody wants embargoes on level 2 events do they?

..... or if you really want to be radical there's always a full colour coded event at Roseisle on the Moray Coast (8th Nov) starting and finishing at the Northern end of the forest for the first time..... there again it's only a level 3 event so it probably won't be up to much.
