At yesterday's event at Brierley (Forest of Dean) my wife and I were doing the same course. I punched number 5 just ahead of her, then I headed off to number 6 and punched that just ahead of her again (shrivally is dead!).
But when we compared splits, we had the same time from 5 to 6, but I left 5 before her and got to 6 before her, so how could we have the same split?

PhilJ.... 'fraid you will just have to accept the times. They are right. The SI units don't discriminate one runner from another!!

You're not being serious, but never mind....
PhilJ you punched number 5 at 10.54.07, your wife at 10.54.09. You then punched number 6 at 10.58.32 and she punched at 10.58.34. You both took 4 minutes and 25 seconds to do the leg.

even more intriging as the split shows that we both took 2 minutes 22 seconds, which was about the right time as it was a short leg?
How did you get the times of when we punched at the controls, have you got the SI program for the event?

Re: Funny Split Time
You can get the times by going to Splitsbrowser for the event and selecting the race graph. Apparently, you punched control 5 at 12:04:25 and your wife punched at 12:04:29; you then punched control 6 at 12:06:47 and your wife punched at 12:06:51, giving you both times of 2m22s for the leg.

Re: Funny Split Time
PhilJ, do you think your split should have been faster or slower than your wife's?

Never mind chivalry -- it's about time that youngsters started respecting their parents rather than whipping them.

I just got this! Its like one of those 'O' grade Maths questions that you thought you had right then your mate tells you afterwards and you slap your head!
Phil - If you'd let her punch first then beat her to the next control you'd have a faster split. As it was youre like two carriages on the same train - both cover the same distance at the same speed.

Re: Funny Split Time
Thanks all for just proving my maths ignorance, Roger ask Caroline to book me on one of her refresher courses, and yes more respect to the parents, I fear my days of beating my lad have past. I was determined for him not to beat me at this event, i'd been for a 5 mile road run, 17km hill run and 13km hill run the week before so was feeling good and there he was cruising past me at control 6. I am pleased that he's beating me and improving his 'O' but it is still infuriating, more training needed.
Now, where's my logarithm book...
