This is a shameless plug for the Scottish Sprint Championships on September 26th. Entries (via the Moravian website) are coming in nicely with still 2 and a bit weeks before they become late.
There are prizes and tites up for grabs for all BOF age classes.
The area is a fabulous mix of alleyways and an abandoned quarry, all very suitabe for shorts. I test ran the longest course on Saturday and found it very intense trying to keep up a good pace. I believe the area to be perfect for the event and we have an indoor/ open courtyard assembly area and showers available.
Whilst the championships are only a single run we are offering second runs on any other course (and they are all very different) after the main event.
Full details on our website.
We are going all out for top press coverage and encouraging the locals to watch both the class of the elite and the variety of age and ability and then be inspired to have a go at the public race afterwards. Whilst I know you won't come just to help us in this aim we will really appreciate as full an entry as we can get. It's may be your best chance to become a Scottish Champion and then use that for positive publicity in your home area.

Eddie far from shamelessly plugging I fear you may be trying to misdirect all the talen so you can win the prizes all to yourself!
Or maybe you have another excuse for giving the incorrect date

What is the correct date and where is it?
Yes I'm too lazy to use the BOF system

Possibly the slowest Orienteer in the NE but maybe above average at 114kg

The SOA site

has
So I don't think Eddie is going for the win himself
http://www.scottish-orienteering.org/in ... hips-2009/
has
“It really is a quite astonishing place. It won’t be the fastest runner that wins.”
So says Moravian’s Eddie Harwood, planner of the 2009 Scottish Sprint Orienteering Championships, Saturday 26th September.

Re: Scottish Sprint Championships
Apologies for the wrong date - I have edited the first post to correct it.
No as the planner I'll not be taking any prizes, particularly as my substitute will be putting out all the controls on the day as I'll be in Australia.

Great to see that 10% of entries at present are in the Older ladies' classes. Nice to know that you are not put off by the misleading word "sprint".

Re: Scottish Sprint Championships
Everything seems to have been considered by the organisers for this event. Over the last couple of days they have even arranged for it to be washed down, perhaps there was too much dust in the quarry.

Moray Firth Radio are taking an interest and will be running some pre-race coverage on Friday 11th which will hopefully feature some Moravian worthies. Tune in to MFR sport if you happen to be round and about in Inverness/Moray area and keep those entries coming in.

Re: Scottish Sprint Championships
Well there was a new loch in the middle of the area yesterday but a bit early for map corrections. You'll be glad to here that in the unlikely event of a repeat was down there are no control sites in the loch

Re: Scottish Sprint Championships
Only 5 more days to pre-enter for this event.
I am disappointed at the number of older competitors that have told me "I dont/ can't sprint".
Sprinting has lttle to do with sprint orienteering, and in this case I do not believe that running speed will have much to do with the results at all - by that I mean a competitor's maximum running speed - of course the actual speed that you are able to manage AND navigate is very relevant.

Re: Scottish Sprint Championships
Eddie - If it adds weight to your case, the organiser rang me after test running the mens open course, describing it as "mind blowing". Apparently he sees no way in which a top elite running at full speed can possibly pick the fastest routes. There are 2 Moravian 75+s on the start list and they most definitely won't be sprinting!
For anyone who's already entered, it's time to start getting excited. For those who haven't there are still a few days left to pre-enter via fabian4. Don't foget that with the public races following straight on from the Scottish Champs you'll have the chance to run a different course for the princely sum of 2 quid. And don't forget the event at Anagach the next day plus, if you can get a team of 3 together, a guest run at the RAF Inter-Station Harris Score in Roseisle on Monday morning!
I'm not saying we're going to rival last weekend's City of London Race but I'm pretty confident that those who come will be glad they did. With media coverage on the day from the local paper (and yes - their reporter will be running in the event) and previews already out on Moray Firth Radio this is our big opporunity to sell the sport to the local population. I hope a good number of the Scottish orienteeing population will be there to share it with us (and if the current rate of entries continues it looks promising).

Eddie - shame I can't make it - (going to the PP relay instead ) but I'll certainly be there when you next have an event on.... or perhaps I'll slip up some week day and run the course.
