Force Ten Phoenix 2009
Good news - after this year's tough event around Kielder the Phoenix is returning to the Cheviots in 2009. Put 22 and 23rd August in your diaries. Subject to agreements the event will be based around Barrowburn, NW of Alwinton. There is an excellent tea shop (tea and cake inclusive with Day 1 run) and a camping barn (some limited camping). The dream team of Adrian Barnes (Planner), Patrick Smyth (Controller), Andrew Nicoll (Entries and Results) and Colin Matheson (Organiser) is the same as the 2008 event. Informoation will be on the NATO website http://www.newcastleorienteering.org.uk Contact freefall.matheson@btopenworld.com at any time if you cannot contain your excitement. Valuable prizes as usual e.g. tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats etc

Phoenix 2009
Not sure who might be the sponsor yet (Force Ten didn't seem too interested) but the Phoenix is definitely on and bookings have opened on http://www.fabian4.co.uk
The date is confirmed as the 22/23 August and the venue is Barrowburn - the terrain really is very nice and Adrian Barnes will once again set some great route choices. In addition to tea and cakes there is a bunk barn accommodation and informal camping.
Budget is allocated for prizes - they will be worthwhile but many compete just for the fun of it anyway.
Remember the weather on Day 3 of the JK? I organised that and I am also organising the Phoenix!

Re: Force Ten Phoenix 2009
Is there going to be anything this year for the Juniors?
Why not let them run the D for 14+ and C for 16+? Pairs with parent?
Saunders, a tougher event, allows the Juniors to take part.

Re: Force Ten Phoenix 2009
It's great that Juniors can now enter either the C or D as a pair with a parent. Why prevent them from being included in the main competition?
Surely a pair is a pair whether it includes a junor or not and is equally valid for the competition and eligibility for prizes. Charge them the same entry fee?
C,D,E,F for lone Juniors is also welcome with age restrictions.
We'll probably enter the C class (M45 + M14) seems OK after completing the Saunders (16.2Km + 14Km) with more climb.

The Phoenix is registered under the FRA and it forbids juniors. There is however a Junior Long-O registered with BOF! See the NATO website http://www.newcastleorienteering.org.uk Should be something for everyone
Looks like I have a sponsor too - Montane, so some nice lightweight tops to be won.
