Now the LAMM is out of the way it's time to focus on the Rat Races - lots of navigational skills required plus the ability to ride a bike, orienteer, canoe, climb and generally be up for a laugh and some pain.
Due to the pregnancy of my daughter-in-law son Lewis and I are short of a partner for the Bristol Rat Race (27 and 28 June). Kate was going to take part. Other son Rory is adventure racing in Slovenia so has decided against this one.
Third runner urgently required - female preferred to make us competitive. I was in the top third in Edinburgh last year and Rory and I somehow managed 6th out of 40 + teams in Newcastle. We booked Bristol early so the cost is as low as it could be. If anyone knows anyone else who might be interested please pass on the details. My email is freefall.matheson@btopenworld.com.
I have also been known to organise Day 3 of a recent JK (no buses involved)

Still desperately seeking Susan or other reasonably fit female who can drag me around. Anyone have a friend of a friend in the South West area?

Re: Rat Racing - Bristol Partner required
Well it was an all male team in the end with ace navigator Rory joining his brother and myself. Not sure if any BOK runners took part but it was a terrific event with strong navigational content as usual. On Saturday night there was a terrific orienteering event of 2.5 km based on the Victorian map just east of Temple Meads. That was all part of two and a half hours Street-O plus other challenges including invitation to add graffiti to a wall, park orienteering, boxing, cinema wall traverse etc. Sunday was another good day, with abseiling down the centre of a 6 storey car park, navigating around a three storey shopping complex, canoeing, tombstoning, the "chute" and the "plank" and orienteering using an air photo in the Secret Garden. We were 20th out of 120 or so on Saturday but on Sunday somehow made it well into the top 10. Just waiting to see overall results....SportIdent but the Rat Race are not always very good at getting out the info we want to see.

Hey Freefall,
Congratulations on your final position, I'm glad you enjoyed the event.
Thanks for the praise regarding the little "Victorian-teering" stage, I hope I set the level about right.
