What Is The Greatest Orienteering Area

I'm entitled to my opinion - i think a good area has to be one which doesn't put an orienteer off (dark green, lots of brambles, too much climb), that an orienteer enjoys to run in, and that is a decent challenge (sometimes overules the climb element. May i say that i visited most of the areas in the summer, and so expierenced them at their worst, but also it was raining at Culbin, my map discintergrated (bazza's fault) and we went into rough bits

Orienteering areas are like Malt Whiskies ....... they are all good, just some are better than others.
The competitions the thing!
My vote is for Glenmorangie .... how about you Gross?

It's all to do with where you've been, I agree that Anagach is a great place to run, and I also enjoyed Uath Lochans. But different places offer different challenges, and people prefer different types of areas based on that. most of the areas I've experienced have been down south, and Burnham Beeches must belong among my favourites.
have to disagree there, some areas can only be described as utter s**te. maybe in Scotland it's a different matter...
Also, seems trebor has been very UK biased, was that the intention? Because if you were to believe Gross, it would be Lithuania, but surely Sweden must have numerous areas that outdo anything else in the world.

I only mentioned one Lithuanian area:) One from Norway... perfect orienteering except around the area of 'JD's' booby trap... Sweden has great areas, good areas & crap areas... a lot has to do with the map. Here in Scotland a lot of the National Centre areas are spoilt because the maps are total garbage... e.g. Uath Lochans... great area, crap map... and Anagach... the new bits are mapped totally wrong. Dunalistair - I remember the wet Scottish Champs there... in 1995... it was really wet, the braken was very high & the competition was very nearly cancelled!
