Re: ScenicOrNot
How many photos have they got I voted for ages, at least 15 minutes and still they were rolling through: though how they can ask you to vote on whether a scrap yard is scenic I don't quite understand!!

Re: ScenicOrNot
I clicked through pictures 1 to 10, but then there was an 11th and no number 11 button. Must be a bug in their website.
For every winner, there are dozens of losers. Odds are you're one of them.

Ha ha Rebbid - very funny (at least I hope you actually did realise that 1-10 is the scale of scenic not the number of the picture)
I thought they were mostly rubbish - i've got an infinitely better view that most of those out of my window

Re: ScenicOrNot
Looking at the leaderboard, why have all the pictures got exactly 4 votes?
Answer, obviously this site is viral marketing by the Scottish Tourist Board, using their library of pictures of Scotland when it's not raining (not very often).

There's around 217,000 photographs - one for (almost) every square kilometre in the UK. The photograph you get given to vote on is effectively random, and selected by computer - MySociety don't know whether the photo is "scenic" or not, until it's voted on. If the only object in a particular grid square is a scrapyard, then that's what you get.
The photos all come from the Geograph project. So far, there have been just over 750,000 votes (that's why there are generally 4 per photo). Having four random voters should reduce the effects of "nonsense" voters.
I am another user of the Geograph photos - if you click on the "Photos" link beside any event on my events list then you see the nearest Geograph photos to that event. Potentially, with the results of the ScenicOrNot vote, I'll be able to "rate" each orienteering map according to the scenicness of the area. Scientific? Not really. But could still be interesting.
