I'm afraid I was one of those 80 people caught in the seeding trap (or in our case the unseeded trap having two recreational teenagers who would have started 2 and a half hours ahead of our requested late starts)- but the organisers have cleverly sprung the trap in what I suspect is a fairly unusual scenario due to the small number of actual courses. I am very grateful.

I had checked out the start times before hand and had infact amended our requested middle starts to late a while back to be sure of making it comfortably (We have a third teenager on crutches long term and don't like to be rushed) but I guess you just cannot foresee everything.

It is possible with oentries to publish the start times as the entries come in, and to give people what they want. Those who enter soonest will get the start time of their choice. It is obvious as the entry list fills just which start times are available.

I can't see how you can let people pick a time whilst entering. From previous experience it is quite hard getting a good spread and ensuring that club / course separation is achieved. You also need to have most of the entries in before you can start if you are not going to have to make changes later in the process.

In the start time debate, I decided on 10:30 -12:30 for SOL2 as I suspect many people will be in the area for the weekend and wouldn't want to be be hanging around Sunday morning. If they are travelling they can go for the later starts. If the volume of entries is larger than expected it would be easier to just extend the starts beyond 12:30.

There have been emails from nearly 80 separate people to the entries secretary in the last week, the vast majority asking for changes to start times on day 1.

And I'm one of them.

A massive thank you and compliment to the JK 2009 entries team for dealing with my request quickly and without a hint of angst.

For major events where people will travel, visibility of the planned start window allows an informed choice by the entrant, particularly for Day1.

Why isn't it possible for event details (e.g ...... Scottish Champs) to have a list of course lengths/climb etc?

Interesting to see the way they have doubled up courses using different map scales.

NOT in any way a criticism of this event, which is following the guidelines, but is it really necessary to plan a separate M21L course? Don't imagine there's any chance that M21E will be full - wouldn't it make more sense to put M21L with M20/35/40L, and then also maybe shift M21S a bit further down the course list? At the moment M21S, which is the 3rd course for that age group, shares course 5 with M45/50L...

Yes, yes it is necessary. M21E is above and beyond a standard M21L, that's why it's called M21E and not M21L. So the only difference between this race and a normal one is that the elite courses have been added above the standard long ones. That's coz it's the national champs. Why should other 21 courses be dropped down in standard because of this? It aint abuot courses being full, it's about having an elite course at elite length, everything else stays the same. As it has.

well yes, except that because it's a National event M21L (like all courses) is (supposed to be) c. 12% longer than a "standard" M21L (top elite winning time of 75 mins cf 67 mins) - a "standard" M21L would be the only marginally longer than a National event M20L/M35L/M40L (c. 64 mins EWT). I wasn't suggesting removing the M21L class, just wondering why it needed a separate course planned.
also - the event is the Scottish Champs, but M21L isn't a championship race - congratulations to whoever wins, but they are no more Scottish Champion than I am
