Just a quick reminder about entries for the Graythwaite Regional event (and Northern Champs). We hope that many of you have been able to see the boards going around the country with Compass-Point and Ultrasport (and also at bigger events around and about) where we try and show you the differences between the different map scales. As of 16th March, there are over 210 entries, and the breakdown of scales being chosen is quite interesting...
Juniors is approx 2/3 going for 1:10000, and 1/3 going for 1:7500.
Seniors is 8 entries going for 1:15000 (all bar 1 a M/W21), and then fairly equal split between 1:10000 and 1:7500 (slightly more 1:7500)
PLEASE...
When you enter, can you check the confirmation email you receive from OEntries - it will show you the class you have entered, AND it show the scale you have chosen. If it's not correct please contact the entries team immediately.
We are hoping to send an email to all entries together with a copy of final details advising you to check your entry details and scales chosen once entries have closed...

Entries close this w/e
Don't forget that entries for the Graythwaite Regional Event close this w/e - and don't forget you can choose the scale you on too!
There seems to be little appetite for the 1:15,000 maps (just over 20, from an entry so far of 680), and most people on each class choosing the larger scale available.
As this is the Northern Chamsp, AND a FCC race, there is a good field in most classes (even M21! - over 20, and some of the really fast boys too!!), so put your entry in now for a great days orienteering in the South Lakes...

You have to be cautious when interpreting this data.
We have been told to choose a 1:10000 map for our juniors who want to be selected for the training tours in the Summer.
What effect this will have on your data I do not know, but it demonstrates how even with the best will in the world the data set has been scewed.

But the choice of 15000 doesn't apply to many courses.
Having looked at the displays, I chose the 7500 rather than the 10000, but I think I would probably have opted for the 15000 litho printed map over the 10000 laser print if that had been the choice for my course. The sharpness seemed to make it clearer, even at the smaller scale.

ENTRIES EXTENDED
It is now clear that the Oentries site is not working - this has resulted in a significant number of entries either being rejected, left incomplete, or simply not done.
The deadline for on-line entries will be changed (when I can get into the system to activate any changes!) to
Monday 6th April
Can anyone who has experienced problems PLEASE check the entry list FIRST, and then either re-submit your entry, or email the entries team.
Thanks, and sorry

Re: Graythwaite entries update...
Quite a few people are going to the JK and then staying somewhere in the North, most likely out of reach of internet, ahead of the Graythwaite event.
Could LOC make sure that start times are posted before people leave to go to the JK, ie by this Thursday at the latest??

Might be a good idea to pin the Greythwaite startlists up in the JK Assembly areas.

Re: Graythwaite entries update...
Entries are now up and running again (well, they were at time of writing!) but there have been major problems with the entry system during this weekend (together with wider internet difficulties). As a result, the entries will now close at midnight on Monday 6th April.
Please be aware that we (LOC) have had to change the entries person at last minute due to illness. You can appreciate this is not an easy voluntary task at any time, especially at short notice. We would ask for your understanding and patience.
We will endeavour to produce a start list as soon as possible.

Still problems - lots of!!
If anyone is still trying to enter, and is having difficulties, please email with your FULL details...
Name, Club, SI number, BO number, Class to run, Preferred start block, anything else
I will reply by return (so long as my ISP is working!). Once you receive confirmation, please then send a cheque to the address on the entry details...
Thanks to all, and sorry for any inconvenience you may have experienced.
re: Start times - at present I cannot access the entry details on OEntries to export the necessary files. Start times will be worked out and posted on the LOC website ASAP...
