I've often wondered if there is a way of using the fastest time feature as seen on splitsbrowser to produce a different points basis for the 'relative performance lists' that is a better reflection on an indvidual's total performance in a race and is a valid measure to compare performance between events.

This clever ranking list sounds great and probably very motivating for experienced orienteers, but what about the colour awards? I suspect these are potentially more motivating to new orienteers. What's more motivating - to boast that you have reached a national standard (orange, green, blue etc) or be 5690th out of 6110 on a big list?

If the results can be submitted and be turned by a computer into a clever list, then they can be turned into lists of people who have achieved a colour standard. All you have to do is calculate the standards for each event, store in a database records of colour standard achieved for each BOF member at each event and lists of who has reached the standard X times can be produced. No more calculations of colour times by organisers. No more SAE's. Club captains could give out certificates to those wanting an award ceremony (mainly to juniors I suspect).

is something like this planned, or ever planned? Colours seem to be out of favour now so I guess this will never happen?

Don't underestimate the motivation to some adults. I am aware of 2 cases of veteran orienteers applying for their iron standard badge.
